West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill a position for a full-time special education teacher at Braeburn Elementary School for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This position is for grades K-2 and is in the Intensive Behavior Classroom.
Responsibilities:
Provides specialized instruction, as well as provides accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.
Works collaboratively with the BCBA to complete Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students.
Train and assist support staff (paraeducators, teacher assistants, and RBTs) in implementing students' Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans.
Collaborates with general education teachers regarding students with disabilities.
Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, social-behavioral needs and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
Facilitates parent placement team (PPT) meetings and assists in developing IEPs for students.
Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities, as needed.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual students' abilities and needs.
Facilitates family engagement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Demonstrate team leadership skills (monitoring, assigning, and directing), for a group of paraprofessionals/tutors/coaches.
Must hold appropriate CT certification (165).
