West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill a position for a full-time special education teacher at Braeburn Elementary School for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This position is for grades K-2 and is in the Intensive Behavior Classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides specialized instruction, as well as provides accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.

  • Works collaboratively with the BCBA to complete Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students.

  • Train and assist support staff (paraeducators, teacher assistants, and RBTs) in implementing students' Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans.

  • Collaborates with general education teachers regarding students with disabilities.

  • Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, social-behavioral needs and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.

  • Facilitates parent placement team (PPT) meetings and assists in developing IEPs for students.

  • Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities, as needed.

  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual students' abilities and needs.

  • Facilitates family engagement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  • Demonstrate team leadership skills (monitoring, assigning, and directing), for a group of paraprofessionals/tutors/coaches.

Must hold appropriate CT certification (165).
