Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Reports To: Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education

Job Purpose: To provide instructional services to elementary students who have been identified with special learning needs and an IEP.

Qualifications-Required:

NJ Elementary Teacher K-5, K-6, K-8 (Standard, CEAS, or CE)

NJ Teacher of Students With Disabilities (Standard, CEAS, or CE)

Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS)

Ability to speak English clearly and accurately

Excellent classroom management

Excellent communication skills: written and oral

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to implement students' IEP

Ability to create and follow lesson plans

Ability to integrate technology into daily instruction

Ability to engage and motivate students

Ability to interact and communicate with parents/guardians of students

Ability to collaborate with CST

Ability to implement differentiated instruction

Ability to assess student learning

Ability to pass the required Criminal History Review

Ability to pass the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure

Qualifications-Desired:

2-3 years teaching experience at the elementary level

Familiarity with Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching

Duties/Responsibilities:

Creates and follows daily lesson plans that demonstrate differentiated instruction

Implements best practices and strategies in classroom instruction

Creates and maintains a classroom that is safe and conducive for learning

Motivates and engages students in learning

Follows students' detailed IEPs

Creates and modifies student assessments, as needed

Communicates with CST members and parents/guardians

Provides direction to paraprofessional in order to maintain continuity of instruction

Salary minimum of $57,708 (BA, Step 1) as per EHTEA Contract

Able to lift 50 lbs

Able to talk for long periods of time

Able to provide physical restraint to students when necessary
