Position: Special Education Teacher
Location: Lewis S. Mills High School
Reports to: Building Principal
Starting Date: with the commencement of the 2024-2025 school year
Regional School District 10 is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive educational environment for all students. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that students with special needs receive the highest quality education and support.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Consultation with General Education:
Collaborate with general education teachers to develop and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to the needs of students with disabilities within a high school environment.
Provide guidance and support to general education staff in modifying curriculum and classroom activities to accommodate diverse learning needs.
Participate in collaborative planning sessions and team meetings to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning and educational access for all.
Leading Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Lead the implementation of UDL principles to create accessible and engaging learning environments for all students.
Provide guidance and leadership at PLC meetings with a focus on planning general education units using UDL strategies and best practices.
Evaluate and refine instructional materials and practices to promote inclusivity and flexibility in teaching and learning.
Case Management:
Manage a caseload of students with individualized education programs (IEPs), ensuring that all services and supports are delivered as outlined.
Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instructional plans as needed.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of student performance, attendance, and IEP compliance.
Coordinate and lead IEP meetings, involving parents, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders in the planning and review process.
Direct Instruction and Support:
Provide direct instruction to students in both individual and small group settings, using evidence-based practices to address academic and behavioral goals.
Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the unique needs of each student, incorporating a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and independence.
Create, assess, and implement transition activities for all students on your caseload.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:
CT Teaching Endorsement in Special Education
Strong knowledge of UDL principles and experience in implementing UDL in the classroom.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload of students with diverse needs and maintain compliance with IEP and CT-SEDS requirements.
Proficiency in using educational technology and adaptive tools to support student learning.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in special education.
