TITLE: Special Education Supervisor CLASSIFICATION: Certified
FLSA: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Special Education
SALARY: Administrative Pay Scale WORK YEAR: 200 days
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Special Education Supervisor coordinates special education programs and services for students with disabilities; supports special education through a thorough knowledge of the identification procedures, service delivery models, and continuum of service, and ensures the management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, effective least restrictive learning environment for students with disabilities. Must be able to manage confidential information, complete multi-stepped tasks within stringent timelines, work independently, and have strong organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Federal and State statutes as it pertains to the education of students with disabilities
Child find responsibilities and Evaluation procedures
General requirements for writing an Individualized Education Program
Eligibility criteria for students with disabilities
Disciplinary actions including Manifestation Determination Reviews and Due Process
Special Education administrative requirements and procedural safeguards, and policies and procedures
Ability to:
Conduct multidisciplinary conference meetings
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Establish routines and procedures for case management of students with disabilities
Determine needs, articulate challenges and generate solutions to support teachers and building administrators
Maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information
Work independently, under pressure and within stringent timelines
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES (May not include all duties performed)
Work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, related service and support staff
Support special education students through a thorough knowledge of service delivery models and assistive technology for students with disabilities
Support other department staff as needed
Other duties as assigned by Director of Special Education
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office/School environment: walking, standing, squatting, hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations; seeing to monitor various activities; read documents, view computer monitor, kneeling, bending at the waist, sitting for extended periods of time; reach overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally, or bending at the waist to retrieve and store files; and lifting semi heavy objects.
HAZARDS/UNUSUAL DEMANDS:
Frequent standing, sitting, walking and using the computer
REQUIREMENTS:
Appropriate Illinois Professional License with Stipulations and endorsements in Special Education Supervision.
