Job Summary: Provide leadership and mentoring to the administrative, instructional, and support staff relative to special education policies, procedures, and programs.
Position Information:
Full-Time with benefits
8 hours/day, 261 days/year
Salary will be determined based on experience
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, develop, and evaluate the programs to provide the highest quality of services in the most efficient manner to students, parents, and all professional staff involved in special education.
Provide input into the evaluation of professional and support staff within specific programs and complete annual evaluations for district speech therapists, office support staff, and special education coordinators based on classroom observation and coaching/mentoring sessions throughout the school year.
Work closely with administrators to provide in-service training, communication regarding student records, updated information regarding student placements, and support the development of inclusion activities throughout the district.
Assess personnel needs within the special education program and assist with the recruiting, interviewing, and assignment of personnel.
Assess and monitor specific budget needs and submit an annual report to the Director of Special Education.
Assess staff development needs and assist in the development and implementation of professional development activities for special education and related staff.
Participate in, and contribute to, professional activities, conferences, and forums to promote the public's understanding of the district special education programs and the needs of exceptional students.
Act as the LEA for student cases of significant concern.
Conduct department meetings for level.
Participate in placement decisions for students who require additional educational supports beyond district offerings.
Collaborate with principals to establish school schedules that promote inclusion of students in a least restrictive environment.
Work with Director of Special Education to assist in state monitoring or state educational initiatives as directed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Participate in activities that engage parent and community stakeholders in special education concerns with the district.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
Qualifications:
Five (5) to ten (10) years' experience in teaching in the special education or in the related field
Pennsylvania Instructional II and Supervisory teaching certification required
Knowledge of special education law, disabilities, diagnosis, current trends and interventions in the field.
Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the PA School Code)
Submission of the following clearances:
PA State Criminal History Record (Act 34 & Act 114)
PA Dept. of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151 & Act 114)
Federal (FBI) Background Check (Act 24)
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
