Folsom Cordova Unified School District Position Classification TEACHER V SPECIAL DAY CLASS Definition: The Special Day Class teacher works under the direction of the principal and the coordinator of the Special Services Department.

The primary function is to reduce the learning disability of Special Day Class students so that they can function effectively when they return to the regular classroom instructional program.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:
Gather all information available on the individual student.

Administer and interpret diagnostic tests. Organize and interpret student information drawing inferences regarding strengths, weaknesses, and potential. Conduct an individual plan of instruction for each child from established long-range goals and short-term objectives.

Direct the activities of teacher aides. Communicate with regular classroom teachers to provide for smooth transition of students back into the regular program. Assess pupil achievement; communicate such assessment to parents, the principal, and the coordinator.

Establish and maintain a system of record keeping that will best facilitate the learning process. Work cooperatively with special service personnel in conducting the program. Attend and participate in the in-service programs developed and presented for areas useful to the Special Day Class teacher. Board Approved: 8/15/1972

The primary function of the Resource Specialist is working with those pupils who are identified by the IEP team and have a written individualized education program. The manner in which the Resource Specialist provides direct services to these individuals is on a one-to-one or group basis. Instruction occurs in an appropriate educational setting and may include the regular classroom. The Resource Specialist, with other IEP team members, defines specific goals and objectives in the written individualized education program and participates in the annual review, triennial review and any special review of the pupil¡¦s progress. Qualifications: Credential A valid California Resource Specialist Credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Experience Three (3) or more years of teaching experience, including both regular and special education. Additional Qualifications ƒæ Strong communication abilities ƒæ Understanding of general testing concepts, methods ƒæ Behavioral analysis and positive intervention skills ƒæ Ability to consult with professionals ƒæ Ability to diagnose and provide remediation of: reading, spelling, writing, mathematics; and positive interventions for students with delayed auditory and visual perception, eye/hand coordination and/or gross motor coordination. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: In addition to direct instruction and services to individuals with exceptional needs, the resource specialist also provides the following services: ƒæ Provides consultation, resource information, and materials regarding individuals with exceptional needs to parents and regular education teachers. ƒæ Coordinates special education services with regular and preschool programs. ƒæ Monitors pupil progress, participates in review and revision of individualized education programs, and refers pupils who do not show progress. ƒæ Provides emphasis at the secondary level on academic achievement, career and vocational development, and preparation for adult life.
