Job Title: Instructional Aide - Special Education

Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Dept./School: Dodd Elementary

Primary Purpose:

Work under general supervision of teacher and administrator in assigned position as a classroom aide.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas Paraprofessional Certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children and teachers

Ability to communicate effectively

Ability to manage a classroom and assist in planning instruction

Experience:

One year experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Assist teachers and students in use of appropriate educational resources.

  • Works collaboratively with and follows directions of the supervising teacher.

  • Demonstrates initiative in planning for the instructional needs of students

  • Provides basic care to special needs student as directed by supervising teacher and principal

Student Management

  • Manage student behavior.

  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

  • Keep teacher and/or administrator informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

Other

  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
