SSN Paraprofessional

Summary: Severe Needs Paraprofessionals are responsible for working in a team environment in the Severe Support Needs room to assist the teacher in providing educational experiences and support to students. This position may include duties related to the care of students, which may require lifting, assisting with toileting, and assisting with medical tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provide instructional assistance to special education students Monitor and evaluate student progress Assisting students in a special education classroom Participate as a classified staff member within the building Participate in all aspects of special education students schooling experience Responsible for providing a safe educational environment Participant in implementing students' Individual Education Plans and behavior plans Assist students with personal care, self-advocacy and in getting to and from bus stops, restrooms, lunchrooms, etc. Assist students with personal health and hygiene, including spoon feeding, tube feeding, toileting, catheterization, suctioning, delivery of oxygen or other medications and diapering.

Perform all medical procedures delegated by the school nurse. Lift, transfer, or push students in wheelchairs. Use alternative language techniques such as sign language or voice activated computer systems when needed.

Assist staff with recording student health information for daily communication between school and family. Coordinate student health needs between teachers, nurses, and parents. Assist the classroom and health services staff to meet Individual Education Plans (IEP) and health care plans.

Provide emergency and routine health care and/or first aid, administer medications adhering to District and state procedures, and perform delegated medical procedures. Any and all other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Experience working with middle school age students preferred, but not required

  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred, but not required

  • Applicant must demonstrate a great deal of patience and empathy

  • Medication administration and medical procedure training required and provided upon hire

  • Criminal background check

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary range is $17.00-$18.50 per hour, depending on years of relevant experience. The district provides health insurance benefits including dental and vision, PERA retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability, an optional supplemental 401(k) plan, an employee assistance plan, and the ability to enroll in supplemental insurances and savings accounts through a third-party vendor.
