Special Education Paraprofessional

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITEIS: Other duties may be assigned.

• Follow schedule as assigned and abide by expectations of assigned teacher(s)

• Assist teachers in implementing classroom activities or assignments

• Assist in preparation of classroom materials

• Assist with record keeping, reporting, and filing as assigned by teacher(s)

• Maintain an attractive and orderly environment

• Supervise students as assigned and support student learning

• Assist with assessment and evaluation of learning as necessary

• Assist with identification of and attention to children's health and hygiene needs, provide care when needed

• Engender positive communication with students, teachers, administration, and parents

• Maintain strict confidentiality of student background knowledge, records, and data

• Assist students in behavior modification as necessary

• Participate in staff development and attend required training and meetings as assigned

• Provide social, emotional, and self-help support to students as assigned

• Comply with state and district policies and regulations

• Adhere to attendance and punctuality requirements

• Display professionalism in appearance, attitude, and actions

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 60 college hours or 2 year degree or pass the Parapro praxis

• DESE trainings as deemed appropriate by the Special Program Director

• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and students

• Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations
