Job Summary

The purpose of the position is to assist students with disabilities who are receiving special education services by performing paraprofessional duties including modality-based academic instruction, physical education instruction, social skills instruction, behavioral modification and management, preparation of instructional materials, clerical tasks, and related duties as assigned. Special Education Paraeducators I and II are assigned to a variety of grade levels, preschool to adult, and a variety of settings, including resource programs, general education classes, special day classes, classrooms for emotionally disturbed students, and as one-to-one support assistance to students.

Please read this information thoroughly as it will provide answers to frequently asked questions about the position and will contain information that you will need in order for your application to be considered: In an effort to fill vacant positions across many sites throughout the district for Special Education Paraeducators in the 2023-2034 school year we are able to bring in successful candidates that have placed on the current eligibility list three steps higher than the current salary schedule.

New hire starting range to be determined after consideration and review of application on file and any relevant years of education or job related experience. Salary range for new hires will be $24.87-$27.21/hour depending on individual eligibility and placement. Oral Board Interviews:

TBD. We are creating an eligibility list for open positions for 2023-24 and 2024-25 school year. Must be willing to work in person. Make sure all documents are attached or your application can not be considered if incomplete.

Fingerprint and TB Clearances are required to be obtained prior to starting work. School sites and locations are TBD. Hours/days are typically between 4.0 and 6.5 hours per day, M-F.

Most positions are 8:00 AM-3:00 PM. Experience working with students with disabilities is desired but not required to apply. TEST INFORMATION:

ALL APPLICANTS MUST TEST OR SUBMIT A COPY OF TRANSCRIPT. Applicants who possess an AA/AS Degree, or who have two full years of college coursework (48 semester units or 60 quarter units from an accredited college course with a grade of C or better will count) are not required to take the District offered written examination. If you wish to be waived from the written examination, you must submit copies of your transcripts with your application.

If hired, you will be required to submit official transcripts. If you do not have the required units you will be contacted to take a written examination covering mathematics and writing skills required by minimum qualifications contained in the Class Specification (NCLB Examination). Dates and times for next offered NCLB examinations are as follows: 1/3/2024 9:00-11:00 AM; 2/7/2024 10:00-12:00 PM; 3/6/2024 9:00-11:00 AM; 4/3/2024 9:00-11:00 AM; 5/1/2024 9:00-11:00 AM. NCLB exam is offered in person only at the District Office, 1500 Lizzie St.

San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. If you need to take this exam, please note this on your application. Allow two hours for the examination.

Minimal written passing score is 70%. Applications will be screened and evaluated for relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and experience on a job-related basis. Candidates who successfully pass screening and have submitted all required documents will proceed to an oral interview.

An oral interview covering personal qualifications, experience, and training is required.

Interviews are approximately 20-30 minutes. Date for the oral board interview TBD. Minimal passing score is 70%. Candidates will be contacted for a hiring interview when they have placed in the top three ranks of the oral board interviews.

If you have not placed in the top three ranks, you will be placed on the eligibility list for six months from the date of the oral boards for other vacancies that may arise during that time. Placement on the eligibility list is not a guarantee that you will be offered a position. ADDITIONAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Human Resources Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview.

A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces or National Guard in time of war or national emergency. 4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months. This is a dual examination in which the resulting eligibility list shall consist of promotional and open competitive candidates.
