JOB SUMMARY
Provide quality school-based occupational therapy services, which include but are not limited to assessment/evaluation, intervention/treatment, IEP planning and implementation, discharge planning, related documentation, and communication between teachers, teacher assistants, service providers, and families
Reports to: Executive Director of Special Education
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Functions as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to evaluate student function, identifying those requiring school-based therapy services, appropriate programming and on-going progress
Assess students using appropriate evaluation tools including standardized tests, clinical observations, and review of medical and educational reports to determine need for therapy intervention plan
Chooses activities to improve student performance in the skill areas (i.e. gross motor, fine motor, perceptual, visual motor, sensory system integration, positioning, feeding, daily living, etc.) necessary for accessing curriculum, learning and functioning within the school environment
Provides other related, direct services through a variety of methods (e.g., classroom presentations, in-services to staff/parents, etc.) as needed
Provides classroom programs, instruction in management techniques, adapted equipment, and environmental modifications including the identification of architectural barriers necessary to facilitate student access to curriculum
Assists and consults with classroom staff with modification of school tasks to accommodate the needs of students
Reviews and participates in development of IEPs, evaluation, assessment and progress reports
Maintains specified records with data on each student referred, evaluated and/or identified for on-going occupational therapy services
Investigates and recommends types of equipment available to meet student needs, funding sources, and vendor options, including insurance forms and letters of justification.
Establishes and monitors caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage school-based occupational therapy services
Participates in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance direct services
Supports and implements district policies, regulations, procedures, and administrative directives
Adhere to all timelines expressed by Article 7.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned which are necessary for the daily operation of the school program.
Qualifications Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in occupational therapy, from an accredited university
Valid Indiana Occupational Therapy license
Possession of or ability to obtain a National Provider Identification (NPI) number prior to employment
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school based occupational therapy services
Excellent organizational, and oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and to effectively handle multiple school assignments
EFFECTIVE: 2024-25 school year, 187 days
ASSIGNMENT: Full Time
