Preschool-8th Grade SPECIAL EDUCATION/TITLE 1 TEACHER
(This position could potentially begin this Spring and offer flexible hours for summer if desired)
Position: Special Education/Classroom Teacher (1FTE)
Salary: 2024-2025 schoolyear: salary DOE with base salary range of $35,134-$61,463. DOE and licensure (Likely to increase with current negotiation year; Monthly additional $425/mo cash benefit available if proof of creditable coverage is provided);
Supervision:
Teachers fall under the primary direction of the Principal
Job Goal:
The Dixon School District Special Education Teacher serves as instructor and case manager for all students identified for special services. This individual is responsible for the delivery of general instruction in accordance with district curriculum and state standards, intervention services to meet individual student needs, and co-teaching with classroom teachers when deemed appropriate. The individual must also be prepared to use research-based best practices to ensure that students have learned and can apply clearly defined skills and concepts. General classroom teachers are typically responsible for teaching core English Language Arts and Math at their grade level. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers to evaluate progress monitoring data, make instructional adjustments, and support development of curricular programs best meeting the needs of all students. As Dixon is a rural small school environment, the teacher will potentially serve the broader student population through instructing or supporting multi-age grouping for supplemental courses (HPE, Art, Music, etc.).

Dixon School District utilizes a collaborative approach to providing a quality education to students and continually improving its educational program. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for delivering the appropriate content utilizing research-based best practices, ensuring students have learned the material, and also implementing interventions when students do not learn. The Special Education Teacher works with all classroom teachers and paraeducators to develop assessments, analyze student achievement data, and respond to the academic needs of students.

Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, and professionally with colleagues and parents
Knowledge of Indian Education for All concepts, and familiarity with IEFA integration into the classroom
Ability to manage daily classroom routines and student behavior in a multi-age setting
Ability to continually review student progress toward defined goals, communicate progress to students, parents and team teachers
Understanding of curriculum components, district curriculum, state and national standards for elementary education
Ability to plan lessons, prepare lesson plans, and align teaching with curricular goals in a multi-age setting
Familiarity with fundamental assessment approaches; both formative and summative
Technologically proficient with word processing, email, and other technology skills essential to success in the job, as well as willingness to learn about and integrate ever-changing technological tools and approaches utilized in providing quality instruction to students and IEP case management.

Develops and executes a rigorous standards-based curriculum through collaboration with general education teachers.
Differentiates curriculum, instruction, and individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet individual student needs.
Uses student performance data derived from teacher-created and standardized assessments to drive instructional decision-making.
Designs and implements high quality IEPs that effectively catalog student needs with clear objectives and outcomes in a timely manner.
Effectively uses various co-teaching models to deliver high quality instruction to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Elementary Education with appropriate certifications/endorsements and background knowledge required to teach in the elementary setting
Successful teaching experience or pre-service internship experience
Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements (as necessary)
