THE CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY
Across the nation, only half of all students from low-income communities graduate from high school and only 10% earn a college degree.
Even though 84% of their students are economically disadvantaged, YES Prep provides evidence that different outcomes are possible. Ninety-seven (97%) of YES Prep alumni matriculate to college within one year and alumni like Eddie Zapata are earning their college degrees at four times the rate of their peers with similar socioeconomic backgrounds. How do they do this?
Each of YES Preps 18 campuses serves 6th-12th graders like Monique Bowie. Students typically enter YES Prep one or more grade levels behind but quickly find themselves on a different life trajectory as a result of transformative relationships with teachers and leaders and access to excellent educational opportunities.
As the first minority-majority city, Houstons schools cannot keep up with demand from students like Eddie and Monique.
Houston is the 4th largest city (on track to become the 3rd), and this booming population translates into 7,000 families on YES Preps waitlist. YES Preps student enrollment is estimated to grow from 12,600 to 17,000, between now and 2023.

When you join YESs team, some of the exciting work will include:
Setting special education goals/initiatives for the year that are aligned to the campus strategic priorities and ensuring that there is appropriate and timely data collection and review of progress on the goals/initiatives;
Working with School Director, Director of Academics, and Home Office Special Education team to develop action plans for constant learning and growth;
Managing, evaluating, and developing at least one member of Special Education team or independently managing significant processes within the Special Education team;
Demonstrating knowledge and implementation of content, compliance timelines and Special Education law;
Demonstrating knowledge and implementation of general education curriculum and other special programs;
Overseeing appropriate costs and budgetary items;
Working with General Education staff to identify areas of academic need for students and appropriate targeted instruction, including creation of accommodated, modified, and alternate materials;
Attending Grade Level meetings to offer intervention assistance with both regular and special education students;
Meeting regularly with campus administrators to discuss required paperwork from staff, upcoming due dates, areas of growth for special education staff, and any areas of need to the general education staff;
Assisting in planning and delivering instructional training modules and staff development workshops to all teachers at the campus and within the district;
Supervising the implementation of district and state assessments for special education students;
Ensuring the campus is in compliance with all Special Education paperwork, including identifying students and maintaining accurate state audit folders;
Preparing and conducting ARD/IEP meetings according to state and federal guidelines or managing and evaluating campus Compliance Specialist as they prepare and conduct ARD/IEP meetings;
Planning and delivering engaging, rigorous instruction, according to students needs, teacher-created materials and the provided curriculum, where applicable;
Maintaining a positive, safe, and organized learning environment;
Informing students and families about students progress and making parental contact by phone and/or conducting home visits when necessary;
Actively participating in all teams, including grade level, content team, and other teams as designated by the campus; and
Additional duties as assigned
THE MUST HAVES
At least 2 years of teaching experience in Special Education
Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Hold a standard Texas teaching certification appropriate for assignment
Belief in and commitment to the mission and core value of YES Prep Public Schools
Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
Demonstrated ability to work on a team
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives at once
Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
Frequent prolonged and irregular hours of duty, including evenings and weekends
