PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The special education itinerant teacher understands the central concepts, methods of inquiry, and structures of disciplines and creates learning experiences that make the content meaningful to all students. The teacher is to prepare and /or modify instructional material when needed per a student's IEP, Section 504 Plan, or temporary medical restrictions. This position will have a caseload of students and provide educational services to these students in a home, community setting, or school as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.

  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.

  • Gather appropriate materials and assignments through designated building contacts (usually classroom teacher). The homebound teacher may design a temporary curriculum for those students who are unable to continue normal classroom assignments due to health-related limitations.

  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

  • Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

  • Uses a wide range of instructional strategies and technologies to meet and enhance the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Considers equitable resources and equitable instructional practices to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Updates and maintains all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations.

  • Demonstrates a variety of effective behavior management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.

  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

  • Utilizes current technology to enhance student learning.

  • Performs out of district instruction in a wide variety of environments.

  • Must complete all required Homebound forms every day on work conducted.

  • Modality of work could be a mixture of face-to-face instruction or remote instruction from a district building.

QUALIFICATIONS: Illinois Teaching License with appropriate endorsements and certifications. Must hold a valid driver's license.

WORK CALENDAR: 9 Months

WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
