Phoenix-Talent School District #4 is seeking applications for the position of:
4 HOUR SPECIAL EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
Transition Program (ages 18-21)

This position is 4 hours per day beginning August 20, 2024.

SALARY: $19.52 to $24.68 per hour, depending on experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Interact with students in a variety of settings to ensure student safety and engagement (e.g., classroom, restroom, community settings, work sites, arrival / departure)
Assist with student management by maintaining alert attention regarding supervision of students at all times in a variety of settings
Execute behavioral strategies as identified by the teacher based upon IEP and Behavior Plan documents (e.g., reinforcements, consequences, contingencies). Intervene using a continuum of behavior intervention strategies, up to and including approved physical restraint when students are in danger of harming self or others
Collaborate with special education teacher as well as district staff on Community Based Instruction expectations for each student
Maintain data, documentation, and student progress in collaboration with the teachers while students participate in campus and community training assignments
Implement academic/functional lessons under the guidance and direction of the teacher in a variety of settings (e.g., large group, small group, or independent practice)
Assist students with personal care services (e.g., feeding, cleaning, dressing, lifting, positioning, transitioning, toileting, changing) - may be more than 50% of the work day
Record service implementation on approved logs (e.g., inclusive support logs, accommodation logs)
Collect data, document, and chart student progress in collaboration with the teacher
Maintain confidentiality of student information
Prepare instructional materials under the guidance and direction of the teacher
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to learn and follow delegated medical procedures.
A valid Oregon driver's license.
Ability to pass a physical fitness test, subject to retesting if physical requirements are not satisfactorily performed.
Ability to read and follow a detailed schedule independently.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and adults.
Physical stamina and general good health needed for frequent exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior and potential exposure to communicable diseases.
Ability to independently problem solve potentially volatile situations quickly, effectively, and safely.
Demonstrated effective communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism.
Work is performed in the classroom, community setting, offices, work stations, and meeting rooms. The employee will be required to work outside much of the time and will be exposed to the elements and inclement weather. The position requires lifting and positioning students, controlling certain behaviors through hands-on behavior intervention strategies and approved physical restraint strategies. Paraprofessionals are expected to intervene with students' behavior, which can include aggression, self-injurious, disruptive, and self-stimulatory behaviors. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties, as well as potential exposure to bodily fluids.
Must be currently or willing to become first aid/CPR certified.
Physical demands needed: ability to communicate with students, co-workers, and the public; ability to communicate over the telephone; ability to respond to telephones, bells, students, co-workers, etc.; ability to respond to classroom disturbances, visual cues, student requests, etc.; ability to read written material; ability to operate office equipment; ability to carry or lift light loads (25 lbs)

PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with experience in similar position.
Preference may be given to those who are fluent in Spanish and English.
