JOB DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, perform activities related to coordination and implementation of behavior intervention programs for students in a classroom setting or special learning center; assist in the delivery of an instructional program of prescribed learning objectives to Special Education students; follow prescribed behavior intervention program(s) specially designed to address maladaptive behaviors students may display; and adhere to the charting and documentation procedures associated with the program developed for the student(s). POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION Reports to: Assistant Superintendent of Student Services or His/Her Designee SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in developing the communication and learning abilities of the student(s) assigned • Implement behavior intervention programs as prescribed based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and related intervention programs • Provide accurate updated reports to the case carrier on each student(s) progress in the program • Provide students access to a reinforcement menu as outlined in the program • Assist student(s) in developing a level of independence in implementing strategies to mediate their behavior • Assist students in various capacities including, but not limited to, physical prompts, feeding, toileting, etc. • Assist in testing administration as appropriate • Research additional intervention techniques that can be utilized for students • Attend trainings regularly and remain current in behavioral strategies • Provide feedback on a regular basis to the program team • Participate in workshops and in-services as required • Carry out oral and written directions • Monitor student progress using a variety of methods including computer technology • Compile and tabulate data • Maintain detailed records • Other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE • High School diploma or equivalent AND experience working with children in a learning situation • Completion of at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; OR obtained an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal State or local academic assessment: • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or • Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate • Pass proficiency test as legislated by the State of California • Possess and maintain a California Drivers License and submit to a Department of Motor Vehicle check as required • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency or be able to qualify for the same within a specified period of time • Training in Intensive Behavioral Intervention (7 day training) or equivalent; OR must have completed 2 day training and be able to qualify for the 5 day training within a specified period of time •Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES • Initiate research and exploration of intervention techniques • Effectively communicate verbally and in written form • Operate a computer and software programs as well as other office equipment • Create and use spreadsheets • Prioritize and schedule work tasks • Establish a good working rapport with co-workers, students, parents, and the general public • Complete routine clerical duties • Record keeping • Work independently with little direction • Learn, interpret, and apply regulations and instructions • Lead and participate in a variety of vigorous physical activities • See and hear conditions relating to the safety of self and others • Speak in an indoor and outdoor setting well enough to project voice throughout classroom, playground and multipurpose room • Stand, walk, sit, bend, push, pull and reach on a frequent basis • Lift/carry/push or pull equipment, supplies and other materials that are at least 50 pounds PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Persons employed in this capacity will be required to engage in extensive bending, squatting and leaning • Persons employed in this capacity may also assist in lifting students • Persons employed in this capacity may also be required to utilize physical restraint techniques in order to maintain the safety of students • Persons employed in this capacity may also be required to walk, stand, and run for brief periods to retrieve a student and ensure their safety • Persons employed in this capacity may also be required to engage in physical activity for prolonged periods of time
