POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (IEP) SPECIALIST (24-25 SY)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To collaborate and facilitate IEPs within a cluster, as assigned by the Program Support Specialist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbant must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
Collaborates in the scheduling of IEPs.
Facilitates IEPs for annuals, performance re-evaluations, manifestation determination, and discipline (related and transition).
Assures that IEPs are in compliance with IDEA as well as federal and state laws/regulations, and APS policies.
Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students' academic, social, and behavioral progress.
Assists school personnel in complying with required timelines for reevaluations and annual IEP reviews.
Follows up on any referrals for related service evaluations.
Assists with all parts of the IEP development that include the following: writing IEP and/or typing IEP on an electronic IEP form.
Training school staff on IEP requirements.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Master's degree
Level 3 teacher
Minimum five years teaching experience
Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing
Strong organizational skills
Technology experience
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong facilitation skills
Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff.
Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
Proficient computer software skills.
Knowledge of special needs populations.
Knowledge of IDEA and State and Federal requirements for IEP development
REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Current New Mexico teaching license in Special Education.
