Job Description

  • Provide training to district staff and assist district in the implementation of effective research-based activities in order to improve the academic performance and post-secondary outcomes to ensure all students, but especially students with disabilities, graduate college and career ready

  • Facilitate on and off-site trainings to districts/schools in effective instructional practices, especially related to students with disabilities to improve outcomes for early childhood children with disabilities, positively impact graduation and dropout rates, and effectively transition students from school to post-school activities

  • Provide training, technical assistance and coaching in identified teaching practices/strategies, which may include: Standards-based IEPs; MAP-A; Co-teaching; Differentiated Instruction; Self-determination; Universal Design for Learning; Check and Connect; Dropout Prevention; and, Missouri Post-Secondary Success Project, and Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP)

  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) to provide training, technical assistance and coaching to districts/schools that promote best practices to schools and districts to improve student outcomes, which may include: assessment literacy, Data teaming, high impact teaching practices

  • Attend and actively participate in all DESE required statewide meetings/trainings relative to the Special Education consultant (Improvement Consultant) contract requirements

  • Represent the South Central Regional Professional Development Center and the Missouri University of Science and Technology in a positive and appropriate manner

  • Serve as an ambassador for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education by promoting and supporting the goals and objectives of the Department

  • Meet all requirements to provide training as specified in attachment 3 of the consolidated contract for special education improvement consultants

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, with a major in Special Education

  • The ability to operate a motor vehicle and to load/unload presentation materials up to 50 lbs and to set up technology for presentations.

  • Minimum of five years as a special education educator; experience as a Special Education Director or Process Coordinator is preferred

  • Teaching certification and certification in Special Education area(s); Special Education Administration certification is preferred.

  • Experience analyzing standardized assessment data related to students with disabilities

  • Knowledge of professional learning communities, positive behavior supports, assessment for learning, and/or co-teaching strategies

  • Experience with designing programs for students with multiple disabilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of:

  • State and federal regulations implementing Part B of IDEA; Missouri Special Education Compliance Standards and Indicators; The special education process and effective systems for implementation of special education procedures; Evaluation/eligibility determination (including RTI as it relates to identification of students with learning disabilities); IDEA Discipline procedures; IDEA Transfer procedures; Compliance requirements for postsecondary transition planning/ documentation and Indicator 13 checklist implementation; TOPs training; Corrective Action Plan (CAP) development/implementation; High quality professional development (HQPD); State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR)

  • Basic knowledge of:

  • Co-Teaching; Missouri Collaborative Work (CW); Missouri Model Districts (MMD); Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS); Professional Learning Communities (PLC); MAP/MAP-A; Systems change; Adult learning concepts/strategies; Data analysis; Effective meeting management and processes/protocols; Coaching, presentation, consultation, and facilitation skills; Conflict resolution and problem-solving processes; Leadership skills; Use of technology to enhance professional development; Development of High Quality Professional Development; Excellent presentation skills in facilitating, coaching and mentoring

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,223-$64,860 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
