Title: Part-Time Special Ed. Classroom Teacher (K-5)

Qualifications:

B.S./B.A. Degree minimum and appropriate state certification for position held; ability to meet requirements and responsibilities in order to work effectively with students and colleagues; ability to help analyze the educational needs of students and implement programs to meet those needs; ability to communicate effectively.

Reports to:

Principal / Supervisor of Special Services

Primary Function:

Assumes responsibility for the instruction of assigned students in accordance with the prescribed course of study in the teacher's area of certification.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.Remain abreast of current developments, new trends, and interpretations of subject matter content in assigned area(s).

2.Remain abreast of current developments and new interpretations in teaching methods and learning styles appropriate to the subject area (s) to which assigned.

3.Motivate students to master designated subject matter by remaining abreast and employing knowledge in child and/or adolescent psychology and or societal social trends which may affect attitudes and willingness to learn of assigned students.

4.Use learning experiences which meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of Students.

5.Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

6.Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.

7.Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.

8.Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports, as required.

9.Diagnose the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists, as required.

10. Counsel with students and/or parents when necessary,

11. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

12. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.

13. Assist the coordinator in the review and recommendations for revision of curriculum; assist the administrator in the development and revision of curriculum appropriate for the students of the Florham Park School District.

14. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

15. Cooperatively supervise behavior in the hallways, lunchroom, and on school grounds for the safety and well-being of students, personnel, and visitors.

16. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees, as requested.

17. Perform other duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by his/her superior(s) under authority of the Board of Education and the terms of the Florham Park Board of Education and the Florham Park Education Association Agreement.

18. Implement students' individualized education, behavior, and health plans as needed.

19. Write progress reports, teacher reports, and other reports regarding student skills and achievement.

Terms of Employment:

In accordance with Florham Park Board of Education and the Florham Park Education Association Agreement.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
