Special Education Coordinator: Insights Program (K-12)
Start Date: July 1, 2024

The Insights Program provides a highly structured environment that uses the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis(ABA) to develop social and academic skills. A multimodal, multi-sensory language based approach is utilized to develop communication.

Students receive individualized and small group instruction and staff supports to develop daily living skills. Positive behavioral supports and sensory tools are utilized to develop self-regulation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum five (5) years of special education teacher experience.
Minimum three (3) years' experience in leading staff in providing suports and services and programming to prepare students for post-school life.
Appropriate certification
Experience implementing effective instructional practices, designing engaging lessons, using data and formative assessment in the classroom.
Strong communication, interpersonal/public relation skills, and demonstrated experience in the use of effective problem resolution and collaborative decision-making model
Safety Care trainer preferred.
Experience with ABA principles and methdologies.
Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO: School Principals and Director of Special Education and Student Support Services

SUPERVISES: Assigned Staff

JOB GOAL:
To work with K-12 staff and provide leadership and coordination in improving supports, services, and programming to ensure sustained achievement for students with disabilities.
To coordinate and monitor a comprehensive system of services to support the needs of students with disabilities to provide FAPE in the least restrictive environment.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Facilitate professional learning structures to support staff development and project-based learning opportunities for students
2.Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate Grades 4-5 and 8-9 family, staff, and student transition meetings to support students' transition across grade spans. In collaboration with the ELC Assistant Principal, facilitate transition meetings for families, staff, and students Grades Prek-K.
3.Orient staff new to the program.
4.Assist in the preparation of the master schedule and special education staff assignments for Insights programs at each grade span.
5.Oversee the implementation of specialized curriculum materials, specialized technology, specialized materials driven by IEP/Program
6.Review and identify supports, services, and programming for new students to the district. Schedule and facilitate new student meet and greet meetings.
7.Support and participate in the hiring and staffing processes in conjunction with the School Administrative team.
8.Coordinate, plan, and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff on the needs of students with disabilities as well as regulatory requirements.
9.Coordinate and complete MCAS-ALT DESE student identification documentation.
10. With staff, establish entrance and exit guidelines for programming.
11. With staff, develop and implement transition courses/programming that provides FAPE in the LRE and prepares students for post-school life.
12. Coordinate and participate in classroom observations for special education purposes per School Commitee policy.
13. Identify Home/Hospital tutors for special education students.
14. Assist in establishing and overseeing contracts and outside negotiations for services provided by external agencies, contractors, and/or individual persons.
15. Coordinate with ESY coordinator student programming, enrollment, and staffing.
16. Evaluate assigned staff per requirements.
17. Represent the Special Education Department and Principal/Director at various meetings and conferences as well as to perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal/Director.
