JOB DESCRIPTION:

To provide support to campus staff, administration and parents in the identification, evaluation, and development of individualized support. Responsible for supporting the District's mission by performing duties as needed to guide the growth and development of assessment teams within Conroe Independent School District.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and provide oversight to the Evaluation Support Team.

  • Provide collaborative support for multidisciplinary team process.

  • Work with evaluation staff to problem solve specific student issues and compliance requirements.

  • Review ARD/Individual Education Plan (IEP) process on a regular, systematic basis and provides corrective feedback for improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to special education assessments and ARD/IEP processes and procedures.

  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient recordkeeping systems for required special education records.

  • Develop, maintain, and utilize appropriate information management systems and records essential to the attainment of goals and compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requirements.

  • Monitor ARD/IEP meeting timelines and Public Education Information Management System ( PEIMS) reporting.

  • Collaborate with Special Education Administration to facilitate alignment of assessment staff with overall required professional services of the Special Education Department.

  • Monitor ARD/IEP documentation for quality and compliance.

  • Plan, coordinate and implement effective end of year close out procedures for special education building support staff.

  • Engage in professional growth opportunities to gain an awareness of new assessment materials/techniques/best practices.

  • Plan and implement staff development to build the capacity and quality of evaluations and IEP process.

  • Maintain and monitor electronic management system for ARD/IEP development.

  • Demonstrate sound judgement and good decision making.

  • Ensure thorough understanding of and compliance with State and Federal laws pertaining to the prohibition of discrimination of individuals with disabilities.

  • Assure compliance with Board and TEA policies.

  • Compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents as required.

  • Comply with policies established by Federal and State law, State Board of Education rule, and Board policy in the area of required reporting to agencies.

  • Maintain professional behavior, promote a positive image, appearance, and work ethic to represent the District in a positive manner at all times, and work in a team environment that supports the vision and mission of the District.

  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship, good judgment, and decision making with coworkers, supervisors, other District personnel, outside agencies and organizations, parents, and the community.

  • Work with campus administration to address non-compliance on the part of employees.

  • Promote an open, collegial environment among staff and develop a positive staff morale.

  • Keep informed of legal issues and school law as they pertain to special education and student affairs. Attend seminars, conferences, or professional classes.

  • Subscribe to and read professional journals.

  • Keep informed of research, disseminate ideas to other professional, identify trends and opportunities and apply this information as appropriate.

  • Develop training opportunities and programs for the purpose of improving the performance of staff members.

  • Demonstrate steps taken for professional growth.

  • Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Regular attendance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of successful experience in an administrative or leadership role within the school setting
  • 5 years of experience as an Educational Diagnostician or LSSP or SLP

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree in Education and/or Special Education.

  • Valid TEA Educational Diagnostician certification or valid Texas license as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or valid Texas license as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or valid TEA Speech Therapy certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and District procedures regarding special education students and programs

  • Knowledge of administration and interpretation of appropriate evaluation instruments

  • Demonstrated organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement staff development

  • Knowledge and awareness of a broad range of student disabilities (physical, speech, hearing, vision, medical, learning, or emotional)

  • Familiar with post-secondary college requirements and/or agency supports available to students with disabilities.

  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong leadership, planning and managerial skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community

  • Possess emotional stability, integrity, judgment, empathy, and initiative to effectively perform assignment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information

  • Demonstrate ability for developing an overall quality program with sensitivity to all program needs

  • Management skills comparable with the position

  • Knowledge of Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process as well as current practices regarding student evaluation and interventions

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise and oversee, and evaluate support staff, itinerant staff, and clerical staff as assigned

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

PAY GRADE: AE - 5 - Minimum pro-rated salary - $88,667
