Special Education Coordinator

Requirements / Qualifications

A valid California credential authorizing services as an Education Specialist. Master's degree in special education (preferred). Certification in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI). A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Experience with students with cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities in an elementary and middle school setting.

Job Summary

The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting the special education program at AACA. This may include (but is not limited to) working with children within the school setting who have disabilities, serving as an administrator for Individualized Education Plan meetings, providing training to case managers and paraeducators, and representing AACA at Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA)/County Office of Education (COE) functions.

Additionally, the Coordinator will consult with administration, teachers, parents, and agency personnel regularly in order to support the needs of children at AACA in a timely manner. At times, the Coordinator may carry a small caseload of students with disabilities.
