Special Education Compliance Coordinator

Purpose and Objectives of the Position:

The coordinator is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the compliance of Individual Education Plans- annual reevaluation compliance- and initial evaluation compliance. He/she will coordinate with outside agencies concerning student and school issues.

Qualifications:

  • Current Kansas State Teaching or Related Service provider license.

  • Master degree preferred.

  • Three years certified teaching or related service provider experience.

  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the board finds appropriate and ?acceptable.

Performance responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with district staff.

  • Assures screening process is complete and that timelines meet with compliance.

  • Reviews transfer IEP's and complete acceptance paperwork.

  • Arranges meetings with staff and parents to review assessments and make decisions regarding diagnostic- program recommendations- and placements.

  • Coordinates with other districts to attempt to gain needed records.

  • Assures case record reviews are completed. Monitors special education caseloads.

  • Conducts workshops for special and regular education teachers as needed.

  • Monitors and adheres to expiration dates and reevaluation dates for students with active IEP's and Section 504 plans.

  • Assures special education process complies with IDEA- State Compliance Manual- Standards Manual- and the District Special Education Compliance Plan in the building(s) assigned.

  • Maintains compliance and training for Section 504 matters.

  • The employee contributes to safe and orderly work areas.

  • Fosters a safe and orderly environment for students and peers.

  • Takes appropriate action when students and peers exhibit emotionally/physically distressed behaviors.

  • Supervises other personnel as assigned.

  • Establishes safety procedures for supervised staff

  • The employee works to help ensure student achievement.

  • The employee will help develop school climate and conditions that help ensure maximum student achievement.

  • The employee will assist with student mentoring when assigned.

  • Supports the mission of the school and district.

  • Facilitates cooperation between all persons in the school community.

  • The employee works to develop constructive peer and student relationships.

  • Supports use of appropriate communications skills.

  • The employee works to develop effective and efficient performance.

  • Uses a variety of materials- activities and approaches appropriate to the needs of the position.

  • Develops and monitors plans and goals to improve individual performance.

  • The employee practices responsible fiscal- facility- and resource management.

  • Procures supplies and equipment following building budget guidelines.

  • Establishes guidelines that ensure the care and maintenance of district facilities and equipment.

VII. The employee models positive professional attributes.

  • Participates in professional activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Uses written and spoken language well.

  • Maintains positive contact with supervisors and peers.

  • Handles work in a timely and effective manner.

  • Maintains physical and skill requirements necessary to meet job responsibilities.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with

USD 453 Board of Education policies.

Knowledge- Skills- and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others- including the ability to communicate effectively with a broad number of audiences.

  • Ability to manage job responsibilities and to meet the established district outcomes.

  • Ability to use necessary district-identified computer hardware and software- and other district-provided technology.

  • Ability to physically adapt to the compressed time schedule of a school day and year.

Terms of Employment: Teacher Contract

Reports To: Director of Special Education

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the USD 453 Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Personnel.
