Special Education Clerical/ Paraprofessional

Position Title: Special Education Clerical/ Paraprofessional

Department/Section: Mt. Elden Middle School

Supervisor: Building Principal

Hourly Rate: $12.99 $13.63/hour (depending on experience)

Grade: 6

Schedule: 32.5 hours/week (Monday-Friday; 6.50 hours/day); 9 month position. Benefits offered; Arizona State Retirement System.

Duties: Provide clerical assistance to the special education resource team, including scheduling IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings, auditing student files, and other duties as assigned. This position also provides special education paraprofessional services to students in the special education program.

Typical Tasks

  • Support middle school students with disabilities in the general education or specialized program setting.

  • Implement the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for the student(s).

  • Assist in the instruction of students working individually or in small groups.

  • May assist with activities of daily living, including eating/feeding, grooming, dressing, use of assistive technology/devices, mobility, toileting, transfers, and positioning.

  • May assist students who have behavioral challenges.

  • Ensure the safety of student(s).

  • Monitor student(s) on field trips in the community.

  • Assist teacher with the preparation of teaching materials

  • Provide clerical assistance to the special education resource team, including scheduling IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings

  • Auditing student files

  • Other duties as assigned

Training

  • Specialized training including Crisis Prevention Intervention, use of assistive technology/devices, etc., will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must meet NCLB qualifications; NCLB = 60 post-secondary hours of college coursework or minimum of an AA Degree (or higher) or meet the minimum score required on an Arizona Department of Education approved test. (The FUSD Family Resource Center administers the Parapro test. Call 928.774-1103 for more information and to schedule a testing time.) In addition, please submit documentation showing how you meet the NCLB requirement (attach transcripts, copy of degree or copy of parapro assessment scores).

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.

Employee is required to perform the physical demands associated with for Crisis Prevention Intervention. Employee is responsible for keeping mandatory training(s)/certification(s) current.
