Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 supports our partners, customers, and students to realize their greatest potential through quality, innovative solutions and services.
LIU services include: Adult Education, Nonpublic School Services, Business Services, Educational Services, Special Education, and Educational Technology Services. The LIU serves local schools and communities, local businesses and nonprofit organizations, all Pennsylvania schools, Intermediate Units and libraries via statewide programs, and federal, state and local agencies.
The York Learning Center is a public school facility, serving students with special needs. Students from York and Adams County School Districts attend school programs at the Center.
Through the leadership and administration of Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, the LIU serves students aged 3-21 with a free and appropriate public education according to state and federal regulations in the following programs:

Description
This is for an assistant role (PCA or TA) in a special needs classroom- at the York Learning Center. There several positions available in multiple programs; though no experience is required, but must be willing to learn and love children.
A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) assists a student with self-sufficiency, communication, interpersonal, social, academic, and mobility skills. The PCA assists a student in accessing their educational program which could include assistance with balance, visual perceptual activities, fine and/or gross motor skills, boarding/exiting school van, prompts to stay focused.
Assists with activities of daily living, such as eating, toileting, etc
Encourages, supports, and educates the student by assisting him/her in performance of daily living activities necessary for her/his comfort, well-being, cooperation with peers and authority figures, and integrity.
Assists student in managing and maintaining his/her environment to meet special physical and psychological needs.
Rides bus with student for indicated transportation needs as assigned.
Completes duties of a classroom assistant when student is absent and/or travels to other location(s) as needed.
Assists teachers and/or student to arrange environment of room to best meet student's needs.
Attends training sessions, in-service, and/or workshops designed for assistants working with individual students.
Participates in regular staff meetings, if appropriate.

Qualifications
High School diploma or GED, required
All Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 employees are required to obtain/hold the following clearances before being able to get cleared to work:
PA Child Abuse Clearance
NOTE: PA Child Abuse Clearance may take up to 14 days.
PA Criminal Record Check
FBI Fingerprint Check
candidate is responsible for the cost of clearances*
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain current certificate in first aid
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain current certificate in CPR
LIU will provide training for First Aid/CPR if needed!
Must have or be willing to obtain and maintain current certificate in LIU approved Crisis Management program
Must obtain highly qualified status within one year from date of hire
Highly qualified means completing two (2) years of postsecondary study (48 credits) OR
Possess an associate degree or higher OR
Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through a state or local assessment*
*The LIU recognizes two (2) local assessments to assist paraprofessional staff in attaining the PDE requirements:
The Special Education Credential of Competency OR
The CAPE test
Must complete twenty (20) hours of professional development related to assignment each year (July 1- June 30) in order to continue employment.
Terms of Employment
Full time- 7-hour, 188 day working year. No nights, weekends, or holidays. The York Learning Center operates on a schedule of 8am-3:30pm, M-F
Salary
Minimum is $14.50 per hour. Comprehensive benefits package offered, including medical, dental, vision, life, and eligible employees have free access to the Lincoln Health and Wellness Center, located inside of the York Learning Center.
