Requirements / Qualifications

Associate degree or higher in behavioral sciences or related field. Special education certification.

Registered behavior technician license preferred. Experience in positive behavior intervention and supports (PBIS) preferred. Prior experience working with students with severe emotional and/or behavioral disorders.

Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions. Excellent oral and written communication, instruction, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, decision making and organizational skills. Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.

Job Summary

Job Summary

As a Behavior Specialist, you will guide and assist with our school-wide/classroom implementation of the positive behavior support program, increasing positive student behaviors. This position always focuses first on proactive strategies when working with challenging behaviors and is immediately available to respond to crisis situations with the ability to de-escalate students using CPI strategies, behavioral contracts and interventions documented in student's behavioral intervention plan, if applicable.

This position must be able to perform duties in a positive work mode and serve as a positive role model and influence for both clients and peers. ? Responsibilities Include: Providing individual and group counseling sessions to address interpersonal or family issues that interfere with school performance, including crisis intervention consultation and/or family therapy as needed. Maintaining all required paperwork including but not limited to communication logs and meticulous notes regarding all services provided to students.

Conducting interviews with students, family members, and school personnel to gather information required to assess student social, emotional and behavioral adjustment to school and the community; determining appropriate individual and group topics based on above interview. Maintaining regular contact with students' parents/guardians to inform of student's progress, areas of difficulties, and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance. Developing and updating individualized education plans (IEP) and behavior intervention plans (BIP) as needed in adherence to the company, school, state and federal regulations and procedures.
