The Dallastown Area School District seeks an Autistic Support Teacher (Grades 4-6) who will emulate our dedication to excellence and vision of inspiring and creating pathways for student success!
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, you'll be planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional program for students identified with autism or autism spectrum disorders to enable them to achieve their maximum potential. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the success and growth of students in academic and functional skills. Specific educational needs of individual students, as outlined in IEP's, will be addressed while creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Teaches knowledge and skills and promotes creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
Designs learning activities to apply to everyday existence and problem-solving.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and follows current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree required
Valid PA Instructional I or II Teaching Certificate:
Special Education PK-12 (9231) or
Special Education PK-8 (9226) or
Other K-12 Special Education Certificates that are still effective (e.g., 9235, 9220, 9240, etc.)
Related teaching experience working with students on the autism spectrum
Knowledge of applied behavior analysis
Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting
Experience in technology in facilitating instruction
Completion and submission of all mandated pre-employment documents and information
Such additions or alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable consistent with applicable Pennsylvania law, regulations and requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education
