In addition to a high school diploma (or recognized equivalent), NCLB requires that all Special Education Aides must be able to provide acceptable proof of ONE of the following: (1) Complete 48 units of study at an institution of higher education (excluding foreign language coursework). (2) Possess an associate's degree or higher. (3) Take a local assessment demonstrating knowledge of and ability to assist instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics to satisfy this requirement. This position is eligible for part-time district-sponsored medical benefits with some out of pocket cost to the employee.

BASIC FUNCTION: The Special Education Behavior Technician supports implementation of students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), assists in the instructional program in an educational setting, and assists in developing and implementing a behavior plan as described in the IEP. Typical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * High School diploma/GED and * A passing score on the San Diego City Schools Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or * An Associate's degree (or higher) or * 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university. One year of experience in behavior support and instructional methodologies is required. Completion of post high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field is desirable. LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Conversational and written skills in a specific foreign language related to the needs of the assignment may be required. * Possession of a valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation may be required for designated positions which require the transportation of students (mileage expense allowance provided). Foreign Equivalency Certification: Individuals who have completed high school or college-level coursework at an institution in a country other than the United States must provide a Foreign Equivalency Certification to satisfy the education requirement. A Foreign Equivalency Certification can be obtained for a fee from a professional organization that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
