CLOVIS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT POSITION DESCRIPTION

CLASS TITLE: SPECIAL DAY CLASS TEACHER

PURPOSE:

To help students with disabilties achieve their maximum potential in the least restrictive environment; facilitate the implementation of students with disabilities' Individualized Education Program (IEP); adhere to State/Federal laws and regulations pertaining to special education.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVE:

Reports directly to the Director of SELPA and Psychological Services

and the site Principal.

Special Education Instructional Assistant(s) and volunteers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1.Provide direct instruction, individually or in groups to students with disabilities to achieve goals stated on their IEP's.
2.Utilize the Desired exit skills (Grade Level Objectives K-8 and Course Objectives 9-12) as adopted by the Governing Board as a framework for the SDC program.
3.Adapt and/or modify the Desired Exit Skills to meet the specific educational needs of students with disabilities.
4.Facilitate the implementation of each student with disabilities' IEP including goals and objectives, Designated Instructional/Related Services and other specific needs and services
5.Provide a classroom environment and management system to ensure proper control of students within the educational setting and which reflects a continuum of skill development for each student with a disability.
6.Provide appropriate instructional strategies and techniques to help remediate or minimize the interference of students' disability in achieving their educational goals.
7.Monitor students' progress through regular assessment of their individual achievement and as needed for annual and triannual reviews.
8.Facilitate the successful integration and, when appropriate, mainstreaming of students with disabilities in the regular program.

9.Coordinate IEP process to include development of appropriate goals and objectives. Designate Instructional/Related Services and all other aspects of the IEP with parents, school psychologist, site administrator and other support staff.
10. Maintain frequent parent-teacher communications regarding students' academic, social and behavioral progress.
11. Adhere to the State and Federal laws and guidelines pertaining to special education and students with disabilities.
12. Enforce rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the Education Code, Title V, Governing Board, District and School Administrator.
13. Performs co-curricular and/or adjunct duties as assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Auxiliary Education.
