The Phoenix Public Library is looking for a Special Collections Librarian II to provide leadership and assistance in managing the special collections team. This team works with collections that deliver unique Burton Barr-only service: The Arizona Room, Rare Book Room, Government Documents, and Central Gallery. This position will work with, and report to, the Librarian III- Adult Services Special Collections Manager at Burton Barr Central Library.

This position takes an active role in Special Collections, including: programming, collection maintenance, reference, exhibits and working with other city departments to meet special requests. Librarian IIs perform professional library work and be responsible for providing innovative and creative approaches to goal setting, planning, customer service, information services, readers advisory, and systemwide committee work. The Librarian II job duties consist of challenging and complex professional library work ranging in all ages of service. Supervision is exercised over professional, paraprofessional level staff.

This position requires a high aptitude for technology, time management and knowledge of the principles and practices of archival work. Work includes performing technical and varied administrative and professional assignments.

Responsibilities include and not limited to:

  • Maintaining local history library collection,

  • Handling rare and fragile objects in the Rare Book Room and Arizona Room collections.

  • Working with multiple city departments, art organizations, local scholars, creatives, and heritage institutions.

  • Creating and presenting library programs based upon materials within the collection.

  • Ongoing digitization efforts within local history library collection, including digital asset management and metadata creation.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public libraries.

  • The ability to provide reference and customer assistance through digital means.

  • Essential work functions include the use of Office 365 and cloud-based systems.

SALARY

Pay Range: $54,454.40 to $93,121.60 annually.

Hiring Range: $54,454.40 to $72,966.40 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in library science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.

  • OR a Master's degree in an information science field such as business, education, humanities, science, or social science.

  • Two years of progressively responsible library experience, Including one year of professional library work.

  • Working irregular hours such as weekends and evenings may be required.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience with:

  • Supervising staff in a professional environment.

  • Community outreach, teaching, or public presentations.

  • Special collections, archives, museums, and/or other cultural heritage collections.

  • Digitization or digital preservation of archival material.
