Position Purpose:
The Patient Care Assistant, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, works collaboratively with the health care team to provide outcome/goal-based patient care. The Patient Care Assistant observes and reports the patient's response and progress to interventions. Adheres to MercyOne Northeast Iowa's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne Northeast Iowa.
What you will Do:
Supports the team in identifying patient needs and implementing the outcome/goal-based plan of care
Assists the patient care team in the delivery of care.
Communicates relevant clinical information to others to optimize patient outcomes/goals.
Performs unit-based functions as assigned.
Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit which may include:
Birth
1 - 18 Months Infant
18 Months
3 - 6 Years Preschool-aged
6 - 12 Years School-aged
12 - 18 Years Adolescents
18 - 65 Years Adults
65+ Years Geriatric
Hours/Schedule:
Part Time
24 hours weekly
Special Care Rehab hosts 8 hour shifts on weekdays and 12 hour shifts on weekends.
During the week, shifts will be 3 pm to 11 pm.
During the weekend, the shift will be from 7 pm to 7 am.
Special Care Rehab has every third weekend and holiday rotations
Minimum Qualifications: Verification (by transcript or certification) of successful completion of Nurse Aide I course; successful completion of Nursing Fundamentals course or successful completion of the Competency Test. Nurse Aide II-Advanced course is preferred and may be provided post-hire. In Home Health must have completed Nurse Aide I course.
Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties. Basic language, basic math, basic to intermediate reasoning ability. Basic computer skills required. Ability to work with diverse groups of people. Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situation/environment. Ability to take direction and work with accountability.
