Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifying experience includes working with organizations concerned with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), equal opportunity, civil rights, minority business development, or similar programs.
Substitutions: associate's degree may substitute for two years of the non-supervisory experience; bachelor's degree for four years; and J.D. or master's degree for five years.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of supervisory experience in DEIB, Civil Rights, or/or Equal Opportunity.
Excellent Operational and Management Skills.
Experience with utilizing current best practices in DEIB
Knowledge of Federal and state laws and regulations related to Equal Opportunity and Disability Rights
Excellent spoken and written communication skills
Experience with drafting and developing written policies, procedures, programming, and training materials
Ability to exercise independent judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, handle multiple priorities, processes, and demands in a dynamic work environment
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders
Experience with program/project management tools and recordkeeping skills
Intermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Duties Description STANDARD DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Chief Diversity Officer, the Deputy Diversity Officer is responsible for assisting in developing, promoting, and leading diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the NYS Department of Labor. The Deputy Diversity Officer will help create an environment that values diversity, promotes an
inclusive culture and provides services to the public that recognize and value diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural competence at the Department of Labor. This high-profile position requires strong collaboration and communication skills, the ability to influence and develop productive partnerships, and to develop creative, innovative solutions to support the Chief Diversity Officer. An important assignment will be to lead the Employee Resource Group effort to help people feel more included in the agency. Duties include but are not limited to:
workforce culture on inclusion and belonging tailored to the needs of the agency.
materials and strategies designed to attain a diverse, culturally competent workforce representative of the people served by DOL.
Assist in the coordination and monitoring of internal and external DEI related programs and events and collect regular feedback.
Build reports and track survey results for all DOL DEI programs and initiatives.
Work with communications team to build weekly DEI communications (newsletter, emails etc.) to highlight observances and upcoming DEI efforts.
Work with DOL EDGE Staff on DEIB Curriculum Development and training rollout
Support implementation of the Department's Language Access policy directives, plan and procedures.
Oversee the Reasonable Accommodation process for the agency to support employees with disabilities. Work to streamline the process, train staff and handle DOL employee inquiries.
Stay informed about current diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and trends to support the office and uphold best practices:
o Work collaboratively with the Department of Civil Service staff to meet statewide objectives.
o Monitor the DOL implementation of the written diversity and inclusion plan on a continuing basis, including the need for revising or amending such plans and provide regular reports on
progress to the Chief Diversity Officer, incorporating recommendations for improving and strengthening such efforts.
o Work to promote policies, objectives, and implementation strategies in accordance with statewide objectives for the employment of minorities, women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender individuals, disabled persons, and veterans.
