Special Agents are duly sworn law enforcement officers and must meet the Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment. They are part of the Public Safety Employees Retirement System (PSERS). If you are not certified as a law enforcement officer, you will be trained at the Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center. As a Special Agent, you will be responsible for ensuring that tribal casinos comply with gambling laws and tribal-state compacts. You will work closely with Tribal Gaming Agencies to assess their compliance levels and identify any issues or violations. You will also conduct financial audits and investigations of tribal casinos, reviewing their record keeping and internal control systems. You will be involved in criminal and administrative investigations, as well as special projects related to New Agent Training and the Tribal Lottery System (TLS).

You will be responsible for conducting regular inspections and building rapport with the tribal casinos in your assigned area. You will be assigned an agency vehicle for your travel needs. You'll work a flexible work schedule of 160 hours within 28-day work periods. To be eligible for this position, you must reside in one of the following counties in Washington State: Kitsap, King, Pierce, or South Snohomish.

Special Agent starting salary ranges from $64,056 - $88,332 annually, depending upon your education and experience. NOTE:  5% Premium Pay will be added to your base salary for duty stations in King County.

Tribal Gaming Agents are at the forefront of a rapidly evolving industry. Partnering with Tribal Gaming Agencies, agents are trained in table game operations, casino auditing and accounting, and the Tribal Lottery System.

Some of what you will do:

  • Conduct on-site visits to Tribal casinos to perform routine inspections, specialized inspections, and technical inspections of electronic gambling equipment.

  • Build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation, and mutual regard with Tribal Gaming Agencies and Casino employees.

  • Monitor all portions of assigned area and being capable of taking appropriate criminal and administrative action.

  • Review Tribal submissions to include internal controls, game rules, etc. to ensure compliance with the tribal-state compact.

  • Investigate criminal and administrative complaints related to gambling.

  • Write case reports that are detailed, objective and chronological.

  • Learn, understand, and follow agency policies and procedures.

  • Conduct suspect, victim, and witness interviews.

  • Act as the Tribal Lottery System (TLS) expert for the Central District and serve on the Gambling Electronic Equipment Specialist team.

  • Prepare and instruct formal and/or informational training programs/classes to diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation, GED, or equivalent education.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire.

We may give preference to candidates with the following qualifications/experience.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.

  • Financial auditing, financial record inspections, or financial record investigations.

  • Conducting complex investigations.

  • Information technology experience working on or with computerized network systems.

  • Interpreting and applying complex rules, laws, and policies.

  • Work in the gambling industry.

  • Successful completion of the WA State Basic Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent law enforcement academy.

As a Washington State limited law enforcement officer, the Special Agent is required to complete a basic law enforcement academy or equivalency.  If you do not hold a current law enforcement certification you may be required to attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center. Prior experience and/or training as a fully commissioned peace officer, limited jurisdiction law enforcement officer for the State of Washington may substitute for this requirement.
