Job Summary

Under general supervision actively supports the daily operation of Callaway Golf's Environmental & Safety programs. Exhibits exceptional verbal and written communication skills, has demonstrated an understanding of applicable laws and regulations and an ability to apply the requirements to Company Environmental & Safety programs. Supports key E&S programs as assigned. Emphasis will be in the management of safety policies and procedures, management of hazardous waste and materials, and emergency preparedness/response. Works independently or as a team member as directed by supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards.

  • Ensure compliance with:

Callaway Golf Company Compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Laws and Regulations policy document. County of San Diego Air Pollution Control District Rules and Regulations. California Health and Safety Code, Chapter 6.5 - Hazardous Waste Control. California Code of Regulations Title 22, Division 4.5 - Environmental Health Standards for the Management of Hazardous Waste. California Code of Regulations Title 8 - Industrial Relations. Applicable sections as identified in Safety Inspection checklists. Waste Discharge Requirements for Discharges of Storm Water Associated with Industrial Activities. Other regulations as applicable.

  • Provides daily environmental & safety oversight and communicates issues with supervisor and Facilities Lead in a timely manner.

  • Ensures hazardous wastes, including universal wastes, are identified, containerized, labeled and stored according to regulations.

  • Maintains a log of daily activities, or utilizes a computerized management system, such as iAuditor, to report and record environmental and safety related actions.

  • Perform daily walk-through of all production areas identifying and correcting environmental and safety deficiencies.

  • Conduct daily visual inspections of all hazardous storage areas including 90-day storage areas, satellite storage areas and empty daily storage containers.

  • Conduct and document weekly hazardous waste inspections and monthly health and safety inspections.

  • Conduct and document that all fire extinguishers & eye wash stations are inspected monthly.

  • Conduct and document that all Post Indicator Valves (PIV) are open and secure on a weekly basis.

  • Conduct and document that all fire systems are inspected quarterly.

  • Maintain required air, hazardous waste, safety, water and storm water records.

  • Takes timely action to correct or report environmental and safety issues.

SAFETY TRAINING

  • Following completion of a forklift train-the-trainer class conducts forklift training and maintains training records.

  • Conducts respirator training and manage related recordkeeping and scheduling.

  • Conduct/assist in other safety training, such as chemical safety, Hazard Communication, and Laser Safety, as assigned.

  • Maintains safety-training records in approved documentation system.

Material Handling:

  • Profiles hazardous waste for proper management.

  • Provides daily hands on pickup and disposal of hazardous waste and specified waste streams.

  • Proficient in the operation of a counterbalance forklift. Experience with other forklifts is required.

  • Conducts daily pick up, transportation and on-site disposal of all hazardous wastes generated during shift.

  • Ensure daily that all empty containers are prepared for solid waste disposal in accordance with solid waste landfill and empty container regulations.

  • Remove waste from all empty daily hazardous waste accumulation points daily.

  • Ensures waste wipes are properly disposed.

  • Performs cleanup of hazardous material/waste spills as needed.

  • Ensure weekly that all recycling containers are emptied.

  • Maintains records of solid and hazardous waste, recycling and other record keeping assigned to support sustainability objectives.

  • Manage material destruction requests in a secure manner.

  • Maintain good housekeeping.

Emergency Response and Preparedness

  • Maintain a line of communication by cell phone during work hours.

  • Respond to incidents in a prompt manner following pursuant to procedures found in the Company Emergency Response Plan and Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

  • Ensure Incident Reports are completed in response to incidents. As appropriate, you may be responsible for completing the incident report or assisting the supervisor, lead or co-worker with completion of the incident report.

  • Maintain spill response equipment and supplies in critical areas.

Other Tasks:

  • Perform individual responsibilities, as assigned by the EH&S Manager, on time and in a professional manner. Individual responsibilities include, but are not limited to MSDS management, chemical inventories, record keeping, training, safety monitoring, such as noise contours, and other projects as assigned.

  • Solely responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and working condition of job tools and equipment.

Customer Service:

  • Provide timely program status reports to the Manager, EH&S.

  • Supports meaningful program metrics and identifies areas for improvement.

  • Provide exceptional internal and external customer service with a customer-focused attitude.

  • Timely and professional communication.

  • Work as a team in a professional and dignified manner.

  • Communicating issues with the appropriate supervisors and/or coworkers when they occur.

Authority to Act

  • Individual acts under the supervision of the Manager, EH&S. Individual is expected to work independently. Work is periodically reviewed for timely completion, compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements and adequacy to meet departmental and company objectives set forth by the Manager, EH&S or on-shift facilities supervisor.

  • The immediate supervisor or on-shift facilities supervisor may assign Work assignments.

  • In an emergency, where the result of the emergency could result in a serious injury, loss of life or property damage, the E&S Specialist may stop the activity that may result in the emergency and then inform management.

  • In the event a company policy is being violated that does not constitute an emergency situation, the E&S Specialist shall notify management of the violation and advise employees of requirements.

  • A member of the E&S professional staff shall review written communication outside the E&S department prior to distribution.

  • Authorized to schedule waste/recycling/destruction pickups and then notify E&S Staff, and security as required, of scheduled pickups.

  • Authorized to develop policy for assigned projects with the review and approval of the E&S professional staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of hazardous waste manifest requirements.

  • Knowledge and understanding of hazardous waste classification and profiling.

  • Knowledge and understanding of universal waste management requirements.

  • Knowledge and understanding of storm water best management practices.

  • Knowledge and understanding of storm water sampling and monitoring requirements.

  • Knowledge and understanding of air quality prohibitory requirements related to painting and solvent operations.

  • Ability to handle 55 gallon drums of hazardous material and waste

  • Demonstrated ability to classify hazardous materials/waste by DOT hazard classification.

  • Demonstrated ability to store hazardous materials in a safe and compliant manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to profile hazardous waste.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement E&S training requirements.

  • Be a team player with good communication skills.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a successful track record.

  • Able to work extended hours in critical situations.

Education and Experience

  • Environmental or Safety Management Certification or Associates Degree.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 4 to5 Years hands on experience with hazardous waste management

  • Experienced forklift operator, ability to be a Certified forklift instructor within 6-months of assuming the job...

  • HAZWOPER Certified

  • DOT and IATA certified.

  • Successful completion of current company confined space training.

  • Successful completion of current lockout/tagout requirements.

  • DOT 181/DTSC Hazardous Waste Training.

  • Basic Computer Skills i.e., Word, Excel , Access, Outlook

  • California Driver License
