The job of Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides individual, direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the least restrictive environment as required by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Building Administrator(s) DUTIES: Demonstrate knowledge of Deaf Culture, Child Development, and social and independence skills as it relates to persons with hearing loss and the ability to provide in-service training to administrators, support staff, teachers and parents regarding the characteristics and educational implications of a hearing loss.

Demonstrate familiarity with curriculum Pre-School through 12th grade including Functional, Transitional, and Vocational skills and experience with developing and implementing lesson plans, classroom activities, and classroom management. Demonstrate effectiveness in analyzing student's formative and summative data, providing differentiated instruction and accommodating curriculum, reading instruction and language development and materials to meet the individualized needs of students using research-based instructional strategies and methodologies. Demonstrate the ability to observe students in the classroom to evaluate and report on auditory access to and outcome of instruction, attending skills, coping/repair strategies, use of residual hearing, and effectiveness of hearing equipment.

Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with amplification equipment: Hearing Aids, Hearing Aid Assistive Technology, Cochlear Implants, BaHa's, and collaborate with the Educational Audiologist on the use of devices to meet individual student needs. Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity of Auditory Training, Use of Speech and Speech- Reading, and Total Communication.

Demonstrate ability to obtain, review, and maintain available medical/ audiological information pertaining to the student's performance and probable use of hearing to share with parent, teacher, and other appropriate staff. Work effectively in-person and via telephone and other electronic media to individuals and groups of varying sizes. Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with colleagues and other community agencies to improve instructional practices throughout the school.

Involve parents and guardians as partners in their student's IEP development, educational development, post secondary opportunities, and provide support and education for hearing loss. Actively participate in professional development activities. Demonstrate the ability to train, develop schedules for, and manage Deaf and Hard of Hearing Facilitators and utilization of Interpreters in providing services as outlined in students' IEPs.

Report to multiple worksites in a given day or during the work week, make home visits, and work in the community. Demonstrate the ability to maintain a schedule, be punctual, maintain confidentiality, and meet assigned responsibilities. Physical Requirements:Travel among schools Must have own transportation and a valid driver's license Sitting for periods of time, walking, and/or standing depending on the location and need of individual students.

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Indiana Deaf/Hard of Hearing teaching license or Teaching degree and D/HH certification from an accredited organization B.S. required, M.S. preferred. Proficiency in sign language is preferred: ASL, CASE, Signed English DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING:

At least five years experience as an educator for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing; applicant must not have had a recommendation for a Performance Improvement Plan on their most recent evaluation History of timely and accurate IEP development and completion Experience dealing with families and students from a diverse range of economic, social and ethnic backgrounds. Experience with urban education setting. Use of technology within instruction Experience in use of Power School, LINK, IIEP system Prefer Bilingual Skills; Spanish WORK ENVIRONMENT:
