About you

There's a reason you're called a Speaker Coach, you help clients level-up their persuasion game by working one-on-one with them the way a great gold coach or piano teacher would. You are equal parts sage, encourager, challenger.

You use your precise interviewing skills and keen powers of observation to discover each speaker's unique strengths and weaknesses and then formulate informed coaching strategies on-the-fly to leverage the good and overcome the bad so that your clients can come more effective communicators. Your recommendations are grounded in a through understanding of communication theory and public speaking best practices yet tempered by a realistic understanding of how humans operate when they're under a spotlight. You not only know how people present the way they do, but the underlying reasons for why they present the way they do.

You work hard to bring out the best in speakers, moving them forward without overdoing it. You know how to underline their assets, applaud their efforts, and champion the positive steps they take, even if they're baby steps. You go beyond surface level "do's" and 'don'ts" to give them tools they can use before, during and after the coaching session to become a powerful presenter.

About the position

The Speaker Coach is responsible for all phases of the delivery coaching process, from Pre-consult, to delivery coaching, to post-coaching follow-up. Our Speaker Coaches enthusiastically embrace, express and apply Duarte's persuasion IP and effectively model what is looks like when presenters communicate their best.

Speaker Coaches occasionally counsel clients on how to improve the content of their speeches/presentations based on Duarte best practices for visual storytelling, so expertise in writing is helpful, too. Expected deliverables relating to each coaching session include (but not limited to): pre-consult research on speaker and/or client calls scheduled by the contract Speaker Coach directly with the client; facilitation of coaching session to deliver in-the-moment feedback, suggestions, and recommendations to the client; post-coaching follow-up emails to clients and the Duarte team members recapping insight and/or suggestions for the client's further practice and improvement, and final invoice for delivery fee and travel expenses. Because this is a 1099 position, the contract Speaker Coach is responsible for his/her calendar and time management, communication infrastructure, travel arrangements and delivery of coaching sessions s/he agreed to provide. They would also need proof of current book of clients by sharing 3 separate invoices.

Position requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent Liberal Arts qualification

  • Experience in consulting/agency role are helpful

  • Knowledge of communication best practices and proven ability in public speaking, storytelling or persuasive communication are mandatory

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills plus a high degree of emotional intelligence are necessary to interact and connect with clients and Duarte team members

  • Speaker Coach must have and maintain reliable, high-speed communication systems including internet access as well as voice and video conferencing

  • Regular travel is also required so valid driver's license and passport required as well as all necessary vaccinations and shorts for international travel
