A Brief Overview Responsible for instrument decontamination, processing and terminal sterilization, inventory control and case preparation functions within the operating rooms, labor and delivery, GI Lab, emergency department, patient care units and affiliated Clinics. What you will do Assembles, packages and processes special instrument trays for distributions to other areas within the hospital and clinics. # Assembles, packages and processes various standard, special procedures and operating room instrument trays, supplies and equipment. # Assembles, packages and processes operating room instruments and supplies for gas and steam sterilization using approved techniques and procedures outlined in directives and procedure manuals. # Assembles case carts with required instruments and special requests for distribution to OR#s. # Inspects all trays for broken or damaged instruments and routes the instruments to proper person for repair. # Replaces damaged instruments on sets. # Transports supplies and equipment as required. # Issues supplies and equipment as required and fills incoming requests within a timely manner. # Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain competency as required to effectively and efficiently work multiple assignments, including decontamination and cleaning reusable items, packaging sets and trays of instruments and supplies, sterilizing and dispensing/distributing sterile and non-sterile items. Operates various instruments and equipment cleaning devices/equipment, (i.e., ultrasonic cleaner, plasma and steam sterilizers, heat sealers, decontaminator, sonic, etc.) Hand washes and cleans delicate instruments and equipment. # Assists in monitoring operation of sterilizers and collecting biological cultures for infection control procedures. # Adheres to procedures in accordance with department and OSHA guidelines when working with hydrogen peroxide gas plasm, steam and washer sterilizers. Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and personnel. # Contributes to general care and maintenance of department/equipment by cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas or equipments as scheduled or requested per established policies and procedures. # Wears appropriate personal protective equipment within assigned work areas. # Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner. # Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor. Arranges and/or stores items on carts, shelves or in designated areas according to department procedures. Inventory, requests and receives supplies. Answers inquiries and communicates effectively with others to achieve departmental objectives # Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. # Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement activities. Utilizes computer and related equipment to enter and retrieve information. Operates computerized data systems in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Maintains established department policies and procedures, objectives, compliance/quality improvement program, patient safety, environmental and infection control standards. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities which includes committees, monitoring and follow- up. Serves as resource and/or preceptor to CPD/OR and other ancillary personnel to provide assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of new staff members and students. Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays to provide continuous departmental coverage as required. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
