Summary:
Full time history/social studies teachers at Newton North teach four classes. Often positions are posted before we know precisely what courses the new hire(s) will teach; strong candidates will be flexible in this regard. We teach World History in 9th and 10th grades, and U.S.History in 11th grade. We teach a wide variety of electives in History and the Social Sciences in 12th grade.

Bachelor's Degree
Appropriate DESE teaching license, including SEI endorsement
Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to use technology effectively
Desired Qualifications:
Master's Degree in history or a related field, OR significant post-graduate coursework in history as part of a Master's degree in an unrelated field.
Experience teaching high school history/social studies.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):
Design and implement curriculum and instruction that supports the school and district-wide goals of culturally responsive instruction and universally designed learning.
Prepare and deliver instructional lessons with clear and measurable outcomes.
Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds
Use a wide variety of teaching techniques to support student learning.
Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students.
Implement accommodations and curricular modifications as specified in educational plans (IEPs) and as needed to meet the learning needs of students.
Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward and to modify further instruction.
Use technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom.
Provide students with support (remediation and enrichment) using a variety of strategies.
Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design.
Participate actively in faculty, department and team meetings.
Set professional development goals, develop professional development plans, and participate in professional development activities that improve teaching practice.
Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.
Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students.
Use an online learning management system to post important materials/information about courses.
Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed.
