Spanish Teacher

Brookfield Public Schools is looking for an Excellent, Self-Navigated, Full-Time High School Spanish Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: Certified High School Spanish Teacher to support the social, emotional, linguistic, and academic needs of high school students taking third and fourth year-level Spanish courses. Candidate should be experienced with ACTFL standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment methods, as well as culturally responsive pedagogy at the high school level. The ideal candidate possesses a current CT endorsement 023 Spanish 7-12.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Ensure optimal social, emotional, and academic development and safety of students

• Follows the scope and sequence of the world language Spanish instructional program as defined and approved by the Brookfield Board of Education

• Sets and reinforces clear expectations and routines that lead to increased student independence

• Facilitates the classroom and promotes optimal individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment

• Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear content and language objectives, uses appropriate techniques, identifies observable and measurable success criteria (ACTFL can-do statements), and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom

• Demonstrates strong content- area standard knowledge, particularly knowledge of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)

• Maintains accurate and complete grading records as required

• Participates in PPTs, and family/teacher conferences and meetings as needed

• Assesses student learning on continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed

• Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences

• Designs student-centered instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

• Designs and implements assessments that measure progress and uses assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices

• Designs clear, specific, standards-aligned learning assessments

• Maintains a positive, culturally responsive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner

• Maintains a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior

• Maintains ongoing communication with parents utilizing multiple communication methods

• Assists in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials

• Establishes and maintains professional relationships through active participation in forums such as faculty and department meetings, collaborative learning time, and professional learning days.

• Participates in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement

• Has knowledge of teaching methods, materials and educational practices for high school teaching

• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
