BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Executive Director/Principal, the Spanish Teacher shall teach students a college preparatory curriculum in a project-based and professional learning community/ (POD) environment. Develop lesson plans and learning experiences to meet the needs of students.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Ability to teach a wide range of students, from gifted to those with special learning needs.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans and performances that fulfill requirements of a culturally relevant curriculum program and reflect accommodations for difference in student learning styles, and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  • Ability to teach Spanish to natives and adapt the standards in foreign language

  • Participate fully and productively in a Professional Learning Community.

  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the state standards and administrative regulations.

  • Establish and maintain efficient classroom management procedures and standards of pupil behavior.

  • Establish a system of student evaluation; continually evaluate and record various aspects of students' progress and report to parents as needed and required.

  • Provide a variety of planned learning experiences using a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.

  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve health, attitude and learning problems.


  1. Share the responsibility of interpreting the educational programs to the community through such activities as showcases, competitions, open houses, performances, and parent meetings.

  2. Teach within the course of study from the subject areas at different grade levels.

  3. Teach within the course of study from the subject area at the appropriate grade level

  4. Utilize varied instructional techniques including project-based learning, inter-disciplinary instruction and group facilitation.

  5. Facilitate instruction and manage student behaviors.

  6. Provide a variety of educational experiences including constructivism, student teaming, and authentic, relevant academic activities.

  7. Collaborate daily with teacher grade level teams. Activities include interdisciplinary planning, mitigating student needs, meeting with parents, attending IEP meetings, etc.

  8. Whole school collaboration creates Professional Learning Community. Candidates must be committed to working collaboratively with the Foreign Language Teacher Team.

  9. Maintain a variety of pupil records, including electronic grade records for each pupil relating to assessed learning and grades for transcripts, and communicates with parents concerning the individual pupil's progress.

  10. Creates a functional, age-appropriate and attractive environment for learning.

  11. Provides an atmosphere, which is enjoyable as well as instructional. Confer frequently with professional staff relative to collaborative teaching

  12. Possesses a high regard for teacher and student accountability; models good citizenship and implements PCHS policies.

  13. Must be technologically competent and able to access appropriate instructional resources and guide students with use of technology and other media.

  14. Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college.

  15. Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards.

  16. Assess students regularly and analyze student results; refine and differentiate classroom instruction.

  17. Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school.

  18. Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students' education.

  19. Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged.

  20. Maintain accurate student records including attendance and keeps other records as required.

  21. Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs.

  22. Support the mission, vision, and core values of Palisades Charter High School.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possess and maintain a valid:

  • Single Subject (Specialized) in Spanish

  • BCLAD, CSET, Praxis, or NTE Test Results;

  • English Learner Authorization/NCLB Compliance required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.

Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.

Ability to walk and see within the school environment .

Bending at waist, kneeling or crouching.

Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

LICENSES:

Valid California Class C driver's license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree required

  • REQUIRED Valid California Single Subject Credential: Foreign Language (Spanish)

  • English Language Learner Authorization required

  • NCLB High Qualified

  • Masters or Doctorate Degrees a plus

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of various routine tasks, duties, and procedures and the ability to follow specific instructions with little or no previous experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable and sound judgment to instruct students and manage their behavior, under the general direction of the principal.

  • Demonstrated willingness to improve competency by periodically participating in some form of professional growth and to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with diverse groups of students.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.

WORK YEAR:

  • (January 7, 2013 - June 4, 2013)
  • Teach six periods

SALARY RATE (LONG-TERM SUBSITUTE TEACHER):

$37.00 per hour
