This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit, where we develop next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.

This initiative is at the forefront of developing In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU) technologies, destined for the Moon and beyond. In this hands-on role, you will be based entirely on-site at our Los Angeles Facility, collaborating closely with the Space Resources Program team. We are on the lookout for a qualified Sr. Lab Technician. As such, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining environmental test systems, including vacuum chambers crucial for conducting high-power and high-temperature space exploration technology experiments.

Your responsibilities include ensuring operational excellence and maintaining the highest standards of safety during technical support operations. You will oversee the installation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, guaranteeing they fulfill our stringent standards.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the installation, and maintenance, of laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Familiarity with industrial controls (PLCs), pneumatics/hydraulics, cooling loops, heating systems, and basic electricals.

  • Evaluating, troubleshooting, and repairing technical issues on off-the-shelf and custom laboratory equipment.

  • Assembling and testing new equipment as directed by engineers.

  • General fabrication knowledge.

  • Operating forklift when necessary.

  • Coordinating with contractors for facility modifications and vendors for equipment delivery and service.

  • Managing on the floor consumables.

  • Managing and coordinating chemical waste storage and disposal.

  • Developing and implementing equipment maintenance schedules and protocols.

  • Collaborating with engineers and scientists on designing and modifying equipment

  • Participating in the selection and procurement of new laboratory equipment and technologies.

  • Training and mentoring junior lab technicians.

  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and documenting equipment maintenance and calibration records.

  • Coordinating with departmental managers to prioritize and schedule equipment maintenance, repairs, and installations.

  • Keeping updated on advancements in equipment technology and recommending upgrades or modifications as necessary.

  • Contributing to a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion within the Agile Hardware Development team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience.

  • Proficient in overseeing and hands-on laboratory setup, including installing analytical instruments.

  • Skilled in basic electrical wiring, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and pump installations.

  • Hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment.

  • Effective in managing contractor and vendor relations.

  • Proven ability to manage laboratory chemical waste and compliance with safety standards.

  • Relevant certifications in safety, hazardous material handling, or vacuum chamber operations.

  • Physical capability to move heavy equipment up to 40 lbs. as necessary.

  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on team collaboration.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in a relevant field.

  • Demonstrated experience with large vacuum chambers for integrated testing.

  • Demonstrated experience with analytical equipment, such as SEM, XRD, XRF, GC-MS, etc.

  • Robust knowledge of industrial systems and controls

Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $42.46-$59.45
