Job Description

Position Summary: The Space Planning Specialist manages planogram version / store combinations, store planogram assignments, and provides reporting and data analysis as needed. This person creates a detailed plan for the layout of merchandising retail store shelves with relation to customer flow and purchase behavior. Uses financial and sales analytics to create a diagram/planogram of all authorized merchandise for store level layout and develop a plan where to place product strategically to increase sales. This role is accountable for the integrity of the planograms for their assigned department(s), ensuring the database is current, and for providing clear and precise direction for implementation of planograms in stores. Essential Functions:

  • Provide space management and section merchandising on the assigned categories.

  • Developing and ensuring that planograms meet both Vallarta Supermarkets and Customer's visual standards, all the while increasing space for brands represented by Vallarta Supermarkets based on sales performance.

  • Set up and run team meetings with Vallarta Supermarkets Buyers/ Merchants and vendors to discuss market needs and upcoming projects.

  • Maintain and update all plan-o-grams for assigned categories and/or sections.

  • Quality control of data sources and ensuring accuracy of deliverables, often requiring engagement with other store level management and vendors.

  • Build positive relationship with Buyers/ Vendors key partners as a trusted Category advisor across all areas of the business and departments.

  • Effectively communicate, manage, and prioritize workload across multiple customers (Buyers/ Stores/ Vendors)

  • Develop impactful category analyses and consumer insights using a range of syndicated and non-syndicated data sources.

  • Effectively educate internal teammates and external customers on growth opportunities through clear and impactful communications

  • Collaborate cross-functionally across regional personnel, industry suppliers, and wholesaler space teams to ensure reset processes are driven efficiently and according to the retail customers' expectations.

  • Track & measure itemization results against the aligned strategic goals and shelf objectives

  • Lead future industry growth in assigned areas of responsibility. Qualifications

  • Must have 3 - 5 years of planogram experience in grocery, retail, or syndicated data with a focus on space management, business analytics, or shopper insights.

  • Strong familiarity with Apollo and/or Spaceman Management Software or reset/merchandising experience.

  • Experience understanding, using, and employing syndicated data and/or, customer card/POS data. Experience with data sources such as Nielsen, IRI, 84.51, dunnhumby, SPINS, Symphony Retail AI/EYC considered a plus.

  • Knowledge of BRdata and/or Category Analyzer a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint to organize and analyze data.

  • Ability to use large data sets to develop insights, identify and present opportunities and recommendations to external partners in a persuasive manner.

  • Able to communicate relevant information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and strong organizational skills are preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an Exempt Level Position; Monday

  • Friday. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as required by Vallarta Supermarkets (any day/night of the week and different schedule shifts as needed).

Physical Demands

Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials from time to time. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to team members and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other team members accurately, clearly, or quickly. Manage several requests and situations at one time or simultaneously (multitask).

The hiring [base salary / wage rate] range above represents what Vallarta Supermarkets reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate's relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
