The Research Space Analyst serves as a member of the staff of BWH Research Administration and Compliance and is responsible for identifying, categorizing, analyzing, allocating, and managing space utilized by researchers. Under the Director of Research Facilities Planning and Management will work with designated departmental representatives, including members of the Research Space Management Group at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and scientists to develop and document a coordinated approach to the use of research space. Primary duties and responsibilities occur at the Brigham and Women's Hospital or at off-campus research space occupied by the Brigham.

The Analyst embodies a unique combination of training and background, analytical skills, and spatial abilities and is responsible for developing and maintaining a familiarity with and an understanding of the research groups for which he/she is responsible. Ideally, the Space Analyst should have either (1) a strong research background with particular emphasis on laboratory equipment and techniques and/or facilities planning and utilization or (2) an architectural background with strong analytical experience with an interest in research lab planning.

The Analyst will work closely with the members of the PHs Real Estate & Facilities Office to routinely survey research space occupancy and utilization. The Analyst will participate in the collection of data necessary to maintain a reliable database of space occupancy and utilization metrics (space allocations, financial, capital equipment and personnel.) Reviews architectural space plans with as-built conditions and reports any inconsistencies to PHs RE&F to correct and update plans as needed.

The Analyst is expected to meet with department representatives to investigate past, present, and future program resource utilization (including space, grant dollars, and staff) in order to ascertain present and future space-related requirements. The Analyst must have sufficient knowledge, or be able to acquire sufficient knowledge, of how research programs function in order to be able to identify inter-program sharing and reallocation of resources so that resource utilization is attributed to the research site where the research actually occurs rather than merely to the administering department.

The Analyst will participate in the collection of data necessary to maintain the BWH Research Capital Equipment Inventory. Receives information on new equipment and works with department staff to locate and tag the equipment and Aid in the completion of periodic equipment inventory audits under PHS Policies and Procedures and A-133 requirements.

The Analyst enters research space and equipment inventory data into the Research Space Management System in accordance with established procedures.

The Analyst prepares thorough, comprehensive, written interim analyses and final reports of research group's resource utilization with particular emphasis on present and future space and space-related needs. Reports will include empirical analysis of selected financial metrics applied to space utilization.

The Analyst problem solves and makes recommendations regarding the allocation and management of research space and develops options (based on knowledge of program needs, institutional resources and priorities, and scientific parameters) for utilization of new, alternative, or reassigned research resources as requested by the Director of Research Facilities Planning and Management.

Strong scientific background or facilities planning is required. Prerequisites for this position are a minimum of Bachelor's degree in biomedical, biological or medical sciences, or architecture, or other relevant field of study. In lieu of degree a minimum of 3 years of working experience with a strong background in facility management planning is required.

Familiarity with dynamics and intricacies of research finance mechanisms at an academic facility is helpful.

Experience as a member of staff in a research laboratory, an architectural firm, or a facilities management office.

Computer literate, with particular emphasis on understanding of relational databases.

Primarily office environment. Position may require travel to Partners hospitals and off-site locations.

The Research Assistant II will be hired through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and will work within the Ob/Gyn Epidemiology Center and the Boston Center for Endometriosis. This position requires work in our research laboratory as well as in medical settings (outpatient clinics, operating room) and research offices. The ideal candidate is able to discuss sensitive topics about women's health, navigate a fast-paced medical environment, provide quality patient interactions, multitask effectively, and process, catalog, and organize fresh and frozen biological specimens. Exceptional attention to detail is required, as well as good communication skills, and ability to work as a team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation. * Handling, processing, and cataloging incoming biological specimens (blood, urine, saliva, tissue) * Contributing to daily upkeep of a research biorepository, including aliquoting biospecimens for large biomarker projects, preparing specimens for shipment, monitoring lab supplies, and maintaining a weekly schedule for lab staff * Responsible for study specific equipment and for assisting with setup, maintenance, and training of other staff on study equipment. * Initiates and maintains contact with participants in a longitudinal study via telephone, mail and/or email at intervals required by study protocol. * Contributing to study newsletters, website, and social media presence * Organizes and/or maintains human research subject information databases for study. May be required to design databases using approved software (e.g. REDCap, Microsoft Access) and to tailor data entry forms to match study questionnaires. * Performs ongoing data management and data cleaning to verify data integrity. Assists with organization, cleaning/editing and analysis of data during and/or following the study under the supervision of PI/data manager. * Communication with IRB regarding ongoing and new research protocols * May be responsible for screening potential subjects, ensuring they satisfy all appropriate criteria for the protocol, and, in conjunction with the Principal Investigator/Project Leader, makes independent judgment as to the eligibility of potential subjects. * May be responsible for obtaining informed consent following all regulatory requirements. Interact with human research subjects with regard to study, including human research subject education, procedural instructions, and follow up. * May assist with literature reviews, as well as manuscript and presentation preparation * Mentors students participating in Brigham and Women's Hospital 'Student Success Job Program' * Will help to supervise students/Research Assistant level staff, oversee lab aliquoting projects and data entry activities, and train and orient new staff.
