Bennington is a small town nestled in Vermont's Green Mountains with endless outdoor recreation opportunities (skiing, hiking, kayaking, cycling, fishing, etc.), a vibrant arts scene, an eclectic music and theater scene, and several colleges.

However, poverty and the opioid epidemic are pervasive in the region. You will develop and implement projects influenced by your interests to have real impact and advance your career. SVMC is a comprehensive, not-for-profit, rural health system serving more than 75,000 people in VT, NY, and MA.

It includes a medical center with an emergency department, surgery services, a regional cancer center, and 20 primary care and specialty practices. Member Duties : The VISTA will collaborate with a diversity of community partners and other VISTAs in the region to develop programs that address poverty and the opioid epidemic. Projects will be tailored to the VISTA's specific passions and linked to their career goals.

The VISTA will utilize their unique background and skillset to design and implement projects that address employment gaps for vulnerable peoples, enhance the regional economy, increase access to primary care and dental services, prevent youth substance use, and minimize overdose deaths. The VISTA will learn project management, write small grants to support their projects, coordinate budgets, and supervise interns. SVMC will provide a small housing subsidy, and SVMC's cafeteria provides one free meal per day. The VISTA should be prepared to adhere to all hospital protocols.
