Summary The Sourcing Manager

  • Transportation & Logistics, will work in conjunction with Operations, Logistics, Finance, Accounting, and Planning, organizations to act as the primary contact for Freight and Logistics Sourcing. This position is responsible for creating and executing strategic sourcing plans, to improve cost and drive efficiency, while developing both regional and global suppliers.

The role requires familiarity with the transportation market, across the various modes, and who the key carriers and service provides are within each mode and region. The position also requires an understanding of how fluctuations in the global market, changing technologies and regulations, inflation in fuel and labor, could impact trends (risks and opportunities) will impact Weber-Stephen Products LLC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for understanding the transportation supply chain, including a depth of knowledge across various modes of transportation, including Ocean, Ground, and Intermodal.

  • Coordinate and implement best in class sourcing strategies with stakeholders that delivers the best result in terms of cost to serve, capacity assurance and service, applying industry trends and knowledge.

  • Create sourcing strategies and develop supply base for ancillary services including, freight pay audit, customers brokerage, freight booking, and third party logistics solutions..

  • Contract Strategy and Execution in partnership with Legal and business partners, drive contract closure, including developing a negotiation approach, fallback positions, and acceptable terms, and prepare legally binding and enforceable documents.

  • Own and provide industry and actual unit and service cost data that feeds into total cost of ownership (TCO), and continual improvement of supplier productivity.

  • Identify, measure, report, and action cost improvement opportunities, through negotiations, carrier improvements, and supply chain efficiency opportunities, taking into account the global marketplace, price trends, risks and opportunities

  • Actively manage the performance of selected carriers and service providers, ensuring that KPIs and company requirements are met. Schedule formal business reviews of key providers, encouraging participation of key internal stakeholders.

  • Partner internally to conduct regular transportation market review meetings to ensure alignment between carrier strategy, carrier performance and evolving company needs.

  • Adapt Sourcing strategy to include solutions for new lanes, or shifts in volumes across different lanes, working with relevant internal stakeholders to identify these needs in advance.

  • Develop and create carrier contingency plans in times of allocation or a shortage of capacity, which would include schedule modification of inbound and outbound shipments, identify and work with alternative carriers and brokers, negotiating terms to neutralize or minimize any negative cost impact.

  • Provide support in the case of invoice and other business disputes with carriers and service providers, when required, to prevent disruptions in service, detention fees, and penalties.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a technically related field, Master's degree a plus

  • 6-10 years' experience in Logistics and Transportation Sourcing, Logistics, Operations, or Supply Chain in a in a consumer product, high volume, seasonal manufacturing environment

  • Experience in negotiations with carriers for Ocean Freight, Ground Transportation, and intermodal, both regionally and globally … Asia to Europe, Asia to US, Europe to US, US to Europe.

  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office. SAP/S4 experience is a plus

  • People management experience a plus

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification a plus

  • Project Management experience

  • High energy level and strong self-motivation required.

  • Planning and organizational skills with an ability to handle a multitude of projects required.

  • Must be willing to travel internationally as required
