Directs daily workflow and assists the Department Supervisor, Manager, and/or Director. Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology, vascular, or general sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates competency in performing routine general, cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, and equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Responsible for performing diagnostic imaging and related procedures as outlined in the Echo/Vascular Sonographer III or General Sonographer III job descriptions.

  • Functionsin a supervisory level in the absence of the Supervisor/Director/Manager of Non-Invasive Cardiology when requested.

  • Directs and assists with the daily workflow of the imaging team to include patient flow, supply ordering, staffing assignments and resolution of customer services issues.

  • Works with vendors and Clinical Engineering to schedule equipment downtime for preventive maintenance and repairs and reports any equipment issues promptly.

  • Works closely with the radiologist, cardiologist, or vascular physicians to perform general or noninvasive and/or invasive

cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.

  • Maintains CEU tracking for departmentsonographers.

  • May assist with maintaining the department's time keeping using Orlando Health'stime keeping system.

  • Participates in supervising student sonographers, training, and orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow, participatesin quality and safety initiatives, acting as a department super user, participates in committees related to modality,

department, or facility, participates in educational in-services, and complex care programs.

  • Requiresspecialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field.

  • Leads othersin complex problem solving.

  • Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions.

  • Worksindependently with guidance only in complex situations.

  • Interpretsinternal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, orservices.

  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.

  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.

  • Comprehends and complies with Quality Controlstandards and participatesin all Quality Control tasks.

  • Administers medical aid asrequired for any emergency.

  • Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of contagious diseases.

  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.

  • Ensuressafety of all customers.

  • Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.

  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.

  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

  • Assists in transporting of patients.

  • Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation.

  • Assists in clerical duties, such as, but not limited to, printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.

  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.

  • Maintains well stocked and organized work areas.

  • May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.

  • Assists with other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed.

  • May be required to work afterhours and call shifts as needed.

  • May be required to assist with contrast administration if pertinent to department.

  • May be required to assist with intravenous (IV) insertion and removal for the administration of diagnostic contrast medication if pertinent to department.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate of an accredited school ofsonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing

International (CCI) guidelines.

Licensure/Certification

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and

Registered in Fetal Echocardiography (FE); and/or

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers(ARDMS);and

Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Adult Echo (AE), Fetal Echo (FE) or Pediatric Echo (PE); and/or

  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer

(RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and/or

  • Registered in Pediatric Echo and/or Congenital Echo for APH Cardiology Department; and/or

  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers(ARDMS); and

Registered in at least ONE of the following registries: Vascular, Phlebology, Neurovascular (through The American Society of Neuroimaging (ASNI)); and/or

  • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); and/or

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); and

Registered in TWO of the following registries: Abdomen, Breast, Musculoskeletal, Neurosonology, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, or Vascular; and

  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.

Experience

One (1) year experience in Sonography is required.
