Responsibilities

Your Sonography Career at Community | Opportunity. Challenge. Growth.

Accountabilities 1. Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infection prevention, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies and procedures.2. Reviews patient medical history and supporting clinical information. Reloads prior exams for comparison.3. Explains the examination process to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination and throughout the procedure.4. Assesses patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.5. Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test. Moves transducer over specified area of the body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.6. Enters test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.7. Produces and obtains permanent record of sonographic images, annotates appropriately and records diagnostic data in the PACS system and/or CD.8. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.9. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.10. Provides assistance, guidance and clinical oversight of sonography students.11. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment, never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction. Ensures sonographic equipment and accessories are clean, maintained and functioning properly.12. Accountable for correctly identifying their patient and selecting the correct imaging study from the Modality Work list or entering it manually if Work list is unavailable. Following the imaging procedure, verifies accurate transfer of images into Synapse PACS or Heartlab prior to "completing" exam in EPIC.13. Documents all findings, measurements and prior history in a complete and timely manner and forwards to all necessary areas.14. Performs routine Ultrasound procedures and consistently shows an understanding and demonstration of proper techniques and documentation.15. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required• Fulfill prerequisite of American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS), the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies (ARRT), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification required• Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience:

• 1 year of clinical experience in diagnostic medical sonography and ability to demonstrate required competency required

• Demonstrated ability to perform all exams based on facility requirements required

License/Certification:• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required

Department Specific Requirements

• General Sonographer in Ultrasound Medical Imaging

• One of the following is required

• RDMS(AB) - ARDMS RDMS Abdomen

• RDMS(OB) - ARDMS RDMS OB/GYN

• RVT - ARDMS Registered Vascular Tech

• ARRT(S) - ARRT Sonography

• ARRT(VS) - ARRT Vascular Sonography

• RVS - CCI Registered Vascular Specialist

• Cardiac Sonographer in Cardiology and CRMC Medical Imaging-Pediatric Echo

• Cardiac Sonographer in Cardiology and CRMC Medical Imaging-Pediatric Echo

• One of the following is required

• RDCS(AE) - ARDMS RDCS Adult Echocardiography

• RCS - CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer

• ACS - CCI Advanced Cardiac Sonographer
