Location:Multiple locations including Crownsville, MD and occasional visits to Fall Church, VA, and/or Reston, VA

Position Description:Aderas is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to support Aderas personnel and clients.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Systems administration and deployment of Windows/.Net applications
  • Work with and contributing to Dev/ teams
  • Work with client facing application production environments
  • Perform discovery and migration of enterprise Windows and Linux based servers to AWS
  • Design and implement Virtual Private Cloud VPC environments including compute, storage, database, networking, security, Direct Connect, etc. in the AWS ecosystem
  • Directly integrate with customer teams to provide technical expertise in both theory and delivery of solutions
  • Prepare, document, and present solutions to current and prospective customers

Required Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related degree
  • At least 7 years of general IT experience
  • At least one of the following certifications: AWS Certified Solution Architect Associate or Professional

Required Qualifications:

  • Good working knowledge of AWS services and offerings such as Messaging, Application Services, Migration Services, Cost Management Platform
  • Working knowledge of the AWS network architecture including designing VPN solutions between regions and subnets
  • Hands on knowledge with the AWS AMI architecture including the development of machine templates and blueprints
  • Working knowledge of Configuration Management (Chef preferred, Puppet or Ansible) Continuous Integration Tools (Jenkins preferred)
  • Architect, support or administrative experience with databases
  • Knowledge of 3rd party assessment and migration tools
  • Experience leading migration planning and execution tasks of applications and platforms
  • Prior working knowledge designing High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies in AWS ecosystem
  • Able to validate the environment meets all applicable security and compliance controls
  • Ability to work independently with client oversight remote and onsite
  • Strong presentation skills with PowerPoint and diagrams
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills working directly with clients
  • Good communications skills with the ability to interact with clients on a high technical level and clearly deliver, present and articulate solution benefits

Preferred Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Administration of SQL Server instances
  • Migration from Oracle to AWS services
  • Experience updating tickets and status using JIRA or other Service Desk tools
  • Automating tasks with PowerShell scripting
  • A certification in another technology (e.g., Splunk, Redhat, Microsoft, Azure, VMWare)
  • Additional AWS certifications or training

Clearance/Citizenship: Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance / U.S citizenship

The State expects close collaboration with functional stakeholders, support the breakdown and prioritization of work, frequent delivery of high-quality, demonstrable solution increments and a focus on Lean-Agile principles (e.g., the Scaled Agile Framework or "SAFe"). In addition to the aforementioned skills, the ideal candidate will also possess superior skills in managing transformational programs and/or projects in change resistant environments, managing vendor relationships to ensure performance meets or exceeds expectations, and demonstrated experience in developing and delivering presentations to executive leadership. Responsibilities * Support the One Stop modernization and other related strategic sub-projects, including but not limited to: * Act as the key project manager or technical lead for assigned IT projects. * Monitor project schedule and task completion, mentor staff, and coordinate with business stakeholders to meet agreed to project schedules, budget, and technical requirements. * Provide strategic guidance and input to the supported One Stop management team for licensing-related technology initiatives. * Work closely with State leaders to ensure projects are in alignment with the statewide procurement plan, statewide IT master plan, data governance and security plans, and the objectives and goals in those plans. * Provide technical services, including but not limited to: * Provide project management and coordination for all technology initiatives, to include status reports, project plan updates, and required project documentation. * Develop and maintain project implementation and configuration management guidelines and procedures. * Effectively communicate with DoIT leadership, One Stop sponsors and other team members involved in pertinent tasks and issues. * Provide team management and administration tasks, including but not limited to: * Conduct periodic staff meetings and maintain effective communication links with the One Stop team through individual verbal discussion, web-ex, and e-mail regarding team project goals and initiatives. * Encourage team technical skills development and improvements through continuing education, training seminars, and workshops. * Foster a team environment and atmosphere to grow team cohesiveness. * Ensure tasks are completed by One Stop team members and contracted service providers according to schedule and meets or exceeds expectations, taking steps to consistently optimize performance. * Develop and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences with particular emphasis placed upon skills in developing and presenting to executive leadership. * Recruit units of State government to participate in the One Stop program, with an emphasis on overcoming internal and external resistance to change. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or other related discipline. * At least five (5) years of experience in project management * At least five (5) years of experience in managing IT related projects and must demonstrate a leadership role in at least three successful projects that were delivered on time and on budget. * Demonstrated success managing multi-million dollar projects. * Expert knowledge of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and State IT project management guidelines and procedures, including agile methodology. * Experience managing a team of highly skilled IT professionals in an applications environment. * Demonstrated strong project management skills, including project, roadmap, and resource planning, financial reporting, risk assessments, communication planning, and status reporting. * Strong contract and contractor management experience developing SOW, work orders, managing performance, resolving problems, invoice management. * Possess excellent written and oral communication skills at all organizational levels. * Well organized and the ability to organize others to accomplish goals within prescribed timeframes. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree and SAFe Agilist or equivalent agile certification. * Experience with the entire systems development life cycle including programming, systems analysis and design, business process analysis, implementation, application interfacing, and support. * At least two (2) years overseeing agile implementation projects. * Experience leading and implementing cultural and organizational change efforts. * Understanding of products, services, and licensing models. * Understanding of application/web development concepts with emphasis on Elasticsearch and Ruby on Rails.
