Job Description: Benefits Supplemental Questions
Performs intermediate skilled work in the operation and maintenance of solids dewatering equipment at the wastewater treatment facility; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Examples of Duties: Operating and maintaining a sludge dewatering centrifuge and related equipment; assisting in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
Regulates and adjusts solids dewatering equipment including related pumps, chemical feed equipment, and other equipment to ensure proper functioning and performance;
Ensures that preventive and corrective maintenance tasks are performed in a timely manner to ensure continued reliability of the equipment;
Collects samples and analyzes them to monitor efficiency of operation and chemical dosages;
Cleans, paints, and services pumps, motors, and other equipment as required;
Records data from meters, instruments, lab tests, etc.;
Keeps building and work areas clean and performs some groundskeeping around buildings;
Performs related tasks as required.
General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of solid waste handling system and equipment; some knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a wastewater treatment facility; general knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and the necessary safety precautions; ability to detect flaws in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial measures; ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions; ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain records; skill in the use and care of hand tools; ability to perform some manual labor.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in wastewater treatment operations.
