Solar Project Development Engineer Level III

NEE is seeking a Solar Project Development Engineer Level III to join our growing team. NEE is an end-to-end solar project development and management company focused on solar energy projects at a commercial scale. NEE leads all aspects of large scale solar projects including development, financing, utility interconnection, engineering, procurement, construction management and ongoing operations and maintenance. With projects complete or underway in 11 states, NEE has a national U.S. market presence and exposure to a variety of unique market trends, policies and programs. NEE has built a highly regarded engineering team which supports projects during all stages of development and completion. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of our offices in Annapolis, MD, Boulder, CO, Roseville, MN, or Horseheads, NY.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Act as technical lead for solar projects.

• Immediately advise team in Civil design/engineering best practices for ground-mounted solar projects.

• Perform site suitability investigations on site and via desktop analysis, including environmental diligence, engineering, permitting, and landowner considerations.

• Design 100kW to 10MW solar/PV systems using AutoCAD and other tools.

• Run production modeling using PVsyst and other tools.

• Create materials to support permit applications as requested. Including but not limited to drawing packages, glare analyses, decommissioning plans, visual renderings & elevation profiles.

• Prepare materials needed to submit utility interconnection applications.

• Independently coordinate with internal and external teams (land, permitting, interconnection, engineering, business development, legal etc) to track and complete requested deliverables and/or design changes as needed.

• Demonstrate & maintain strong organizational skills

• Demonstrate & maintain strong written and oral communication skills

• Conduct peer reviews for development engineering team deliverables, drawing review notes being accurate & appropriate

• Update engineering templates and design references to comply with latest industry best practices.

• Independently work with few to no revisions on standard deliverables, including site plans, single and three line diagrams, PVsyst models, and permitting support materials

• Need little to no mentoring on hardware/software needed for job, including AutoCAD, PVSyst, and Microsoft Office applications (strong Excel skills)

• Mentor and train more junior development engineers as requested.

• Other duties and responsibilities as requested.

• 10% of time traveling.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Minimum 2 years solar industry experience; 4 year Degree in related technical field preferred; NABCEP certified PV Installation Professional preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to design 1-10MWdc ground-mounted solar project site-plan & SLD's using AutoCAD & model output in PVSyst (or similar).

• Extensive knowledge of Civil design and engineering as it pertains to 1-10MWdc solar projects. This would include racking recommendations for challenging sites, road/culvert design, retention pond siting & sizing, etc.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Solar Production Modeling (PVsyst or similar) and other technical software.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe and Outlook and proven ability to learn new software programs

• Experience preparing SWPPPs is preferred.

• Experience supporting solar projects through permitting processes, specifically civil & stormwater design approvals is preferred.

• Experience working with subcontractors and vendors.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Self-starter, and naturally motivated to work hard and accomplish goals.
